Fiddlehead Cafe: User Reviews
Went there last night with 5 others and were treated very well. They have a very nice wine menu where you can order a small glass, a regular glass or combine it in a flight. We ordered a wine that they didn't have in stock so they gave us a more expensive bottle and only charged us for the less expensive one. Food was tasty. I had a perfectly cooked piece of fish. Others really liked their meals as well. The white potato, sweet potato and polenta fries were killer! I'd go back just for those. It is a nice spot for a date or to meet with friends. Overall a very pleasant dinner. I am happy to give them my business since it is always nice to feel like an appreciated customer.

Fiddlehead represents good food and wine and great service. The thing that makes it stand out for me is the fact that you can walk in at 10:00 or later on a week night and still be served. They don't make you feel like you've imposed on them or inconvenienced them by making them stay open a little later. The more I go there, the more I like it!!

Is this place trying to be a fine dining establishment? The service is sub-par and the food.....well, just doesn't cut it. If you are trying to have an approachable neighborhood joint with decent wine and so so food, then at least have the decency to match the price to your mediocre menu. I found it rather insulting to spend $150 (incl. tip) for 2 people for a 3 course meal. It. was. horrible. The server not once, but twice, put our soup spoons in the wrong position (our first soups were sent back because they were luke warm). We asked two people what a symbol ment on their wine flights, neither had any clue (one was our server). So, if you are looking to spend that kind of dough on a night out, at least you should receive proper service and a great meal. Also, the decor totally threw me for a loop.....an area rug hanging between the kitchen and dining area doesn't look hip it looks cheap. Skip it!

One of my favorite stops in the city, Fiddlehead Cafe is the perfect balance of a comfortable and contemporary dining/drinking experience. The kitchen does an excellent job of rotating new and interesting selections into the mix but it never strays too far away from some of the great staples (the organic chicken, steak frites, and the lamb shank selections are classic!). The wine selection is one of the best in the city. Don't know what you like? The wait staff are great with idea starters and the owner, David is always visible and great with suggestions. Overall, its a wonderful place worth repeated visits!

There are a ton of restaurants in this city that actually have good food and good service. At Fiddlehead, they have OK food and horrendous service. We went there for New Years Eve. Our party of six had reservations at 8:30 and was not even seated until almost 9:45. After finally being seated our waiter ignored us for another 30 minutes before he actually took our order. As if that’s not bad enough they had actually run out of some of the items on the menu. The waiter seemed annoyed and was sweating so profusely I actually started to feel bad for him. That was short lived. By the time I had refilled our water glasses (I actually had to go get the pitcher before the waiter came and refilled our water) and he had someone else serve me my first course of lukewarm bisque while he was on break all thoughts of compassion had vanished.
The food was just OK. Much of it was served at room temperature and some of it was over or under cooked. I felt like I was dining on the show Hell’s Kitchen except I never signed a consent form (FYI - Gordon Ramsey would have never let that under seasoned risotto leave the kitchen).
I would say that the worst part of the entire experience was the owner. At our request, he came to our table towards the end of our meal. He was so incredibly rude. He continuously told us that he had tables that had had great food and service. I ask you, what good does that do me? I had neither. By this point it was close to 1:00 am. Our plans for New Years had been ruined. He finally conceded to comp part of our bill after a long and drawn out argument. His overall treatment of us and his inability to fully acknowledge the extent of his shortcomings was enough to ensure that I will NEVER patronize his establishment again.

Had New Year's Eve dinner at Fiddlehead. Experienced multiple issues including kitchen being out of lamb entree by 8 p.m., wine pairings arriving well after accompaying courses, drinks taking over a half hour to arrive, incorrect bill twice and worst of all, poor attitude of server. Won't be back.

Fiddlehead was empty early Sunday evening prior to a concert at the Old Town School of Folk Music, so the ambiance was terrific (i.e., conversation-friendly) and the service was good. We liked the warm olive starter, but note that it is enough for four people (or two real olive junkies like us). A greens’n’beet salad was pleasant. The hit of the night was three-cheese mac’n’cheese with pancetta; my companion had a small serving, which is really a main course, given its richness -- it was delicious and totally comforting! Vegetable strudel was nicely presented and tasty. A scoop of blackberry-anise sorbet was a rich, yet light, topper. Decaf cappuccino was a bit bland. Unfortunately, there are very few bottles of wine on the list below $40. All in all, it was an improvement over our last couple of visits. We had a nice time...

A friend and I and our combined three kids had brunch at the Fiddlehead on Sunday. Although there were plenty of tables available in the main dining room, we were seated in the almost empty side room. They are not very child friendly. Service wasn't prompt, but polite. The food was good and fresh, presentation enjoyable. My $3.50 latte however was served in a thimble! I almost laughed out loud. I should have had a latte at the Grind across the street first before coming to brunch. My friend and I both agreed we won't be back any time soon.

A few friends and I tried to go to Fiddlehead for lunch on Sunday at 2:30. We called ahead of time to make sure they were still serving, and the person on the phone said they had just finished brunch but that they had a fantastic lunch menu, so come on in. The three of us were seated, with only about 4 other tables in the restaurant, and 3 different servers walked by us for over 15 minutes (mind you, they were NOT busy at all), never once stopping to ask our drink order, let alone our meal order. We finally just got up and left, heading down the street to the Grafton instead where the service was friendly and fast. The food was probably much better, too. The menu at Fiddlehead only listed a few uninspired dishes, including a $10 salmon platter and an artichoke panini for thirteen bucks. I'd take Grafton's fish and chips over that any day.

I took my dining club to Fiddlehead for Sunday Brunch. We had plenty of room at the bar to wait for everyone to assemble. The host and hostess were cordial and truly love food. We were schmoozing about our favorite restaurants. As my guests arrived I took my steaming mug of delicious coffee and moved into the dining room. We were seated on cushy sofas at long tables. Our servers kept a close eye on us, but were never intrusive. And there was plenty of room between tables. We had a lively discussion and never bothered anyone and vice versa.
The food was pretty standard brunch fare but very good. Omelets came with lightly herbed potatoes which really added something special. I selected the asparagus/crab egg white omelet. At home it may take me 100 egg whites to do this and it would taste like something was missing. Here, it was terrific, a little shy on crab, but plenty of peppery arugula, mango bits housed in a nice spongy egg white fold over. Nice place. Never an empty water glass or coffee cup and no rush enjoying the meal. I can't wait to go back!
