This is a fun place to try new tastes and food pairings. Great romantic environment. Excellent service and really good martinis! The deserts are not to be missed!!! I would definitely return. Average dinner cost is approximately $120.00 for two which includes drinks.

Great Value and Food at Sunflower Bistro

I really like this place. Only the menu they have now (05-08) isn't as great as previous ones. but still, it's really good. And it's better than anything else in lagrange! - RichardMeyers

Sunflower Valentine
By chirosemary from Edison Park, February 17, 2008

My husband and our best friends celebrated two birthdays and a belated Valentine's Day last night at Sunflower Bistro. The entire evening was wonderful. The service (provided by our waitperson, Susie), ambience, food and value were excellent. (Only negative - room a little too warm for most patrons.) A reasonable, but extensive wine list complemented the food selections. Creative pairings of sides to entrees (shrimp ravioli with scallops, etc.), appetizers and desserts large enough for sharing, amounted to a great value. We will be back!

New Years Eve

Had a great dinner with our friends at Sunflower Bistro... they had a great pre-fix dinner and the evening was wonderful. The food was excellent, and the service was professional, but it was too professional....it seemed as if the server didn't even care about us, but was just doing their job.

Our favorite "fancy" place in the 'burbs!
By Stenya from Brookfield, November 10, 2007

We've been going to the Sunflower Bistro every month or so over the last year, and the food is consistently excellent. The starters are great - seasonal salads, soups, and the crabcake are always fresh and delicious. Although I love the bistro filet, I almost always get one of the night's entree specials - if you ever have a chance to try the braised short ribs, take it! - but even the wagyu burger and sweet-potato fries are something special. We've brought lots of different friends and family here, and we've never had a bad dish. Do try to save room for one of the fantastic and whimsical desserts... you never know what kind of creme brulee will be featured, and there's almost always something fun like a flight of mini cupcakes or milk and cookies. Yum!

The waiters can be a bit pushy about the wine, though - I almost always order a glass of wine, and invariably they'll try to talk me up to a half bottle or even a full bottle that they can re-cork for me to take home, even after I decline. I'd appreciate it if the waiters would drop it after I say "No thanks, a glass is all I want." The wine list is great, but I'm just not that big a drinker. All in all, though, a minor glitch in a fantastic restaurant.

I really can't rave enough...
By Cathy from LaGrange, IL, March 31, 2007

I really can't rave enough about this place! What an amazing addition to Lagrange! Once you are inside it definitely has a downtown feel to it, and was wonderful. The martini bar has a huge selection of martinis and champagne cocktails to choose from, and a raw bar of assorted seafood. The oysters were the best I've ever had. We shared the steak tartare, potatoes on four spoons, and the duck. I never would have tried any of these if it wasn't for our server. He was extremely knowledgable and explained all the different menu items so we completely understood them and made us want to try some more unique dishes. The menu was filled with unusual combinations of common ingredients. I would highly recommend it! It was reasonable as well, most starters and salads were under $9, and entrees were $11-$22.

Emilio does it again! Superb...
By Bill from Palos, IL, August 17, 2006

Emilio does it again! Superb value (most entrees under $20). Sunflower is an unpretentious restaurant. A mid-size plate rest.. Chefs Chris and Mary do a very nice job combining sweet and savory in the entrees. Fresh tasty seafood. Friendly wait staff. A little noisy but everyone seems happy! A place to return.
