Emilio's Sunflower Bistro
4.5
Chris Spagnola and Mary Libsch are the creative minds behind this sunny La Grange bistro, appropriately painted bright yellow to offset the cobalt-blue tin ceilings. Fun fact: Emilio Gervilla of the Emilio's Tapas mini-empire is part-owner here. The Spagnolas styled the menu to be gourmet yet approachable, with starters such as cheese served with honeycomb and seasonal jam, duck confit and pan-roasted pizza with gouda and smoked chicken. The well-edited selection of entrees ranges from braised beef short ribs with brown sugar-sage polenta to a Kobe burger with sweet potato fries. Save room for dessert and choose from vintage cupcake flights, white-chocolate gelato with candied citrus and macaroons and chocolate-banana-pecan upside-down cake with coriander-caramel sauce.
Enter through the side alley to visit Wildflower 'Tini Lounge, a separate chic bar area where you can order up whimsical drinks such as The Silver Bullet (served in a stainless steel martini glass), the Wildflower 'Tini (garnished with an edible orchid) and the Snow Cone 'Tini (exactly what you'd surmise -- a very grown-up twist on your childhood snow cone).
