Duchamp: User Reviews
Dined at Duchamp last night, Wednesday, September 30, 2009 with my wife and adult son. Parked on the street one block away with no problem. Service was excellent. My son had Braised Pork Shoulder with Puttanesca Ragout, Wilted Spinach & Grilled Polenta. He ate it all and loved it. My wife had Roasted Roulade of Salmon with Pear-Kohlrabi Savory Strudel & Apple Cider Nage. She said it was great. I had ‘Steak & Eggs’ Grilled Skirt Steak with Parmesan–Smoked Bacon Quiche & Roasted Shallot Sauce . The steak was served in medium-rare slices that were delicious. I never ate quiche before. It was very good. We had a bottle of wine and shared two desserts. All were fantastic. It was a great meal for a total of $150. Not cheap, but I have had many just o.k. meals in that price range so I highly recommend Duchamp.

Although I like the location and the outdoor seating area is nice, personally I hate the communal seating of duchamps and I will not go back. I do not want to listen to the conversations of other couples or groups. If you go there in a party of 4 or more and get your own table, it is probably OK. But I would not recommend going there as a couple -- at least not on the weekend when you will be stuck at a table with other couples and have to listen to them blabber.

We went out as a family to celebrate my sis birthday and everything was great. The wait staff was on top of things the food was well presented as well as tasted great. A plus was the owner came out and introduced himself and made sure everything was good with our table. I was very pleased with our experince.

It kills me that it was my idea to go here- With one Good Friend and another...How we say Gooood Friend. So I'm not bashful in front of my two good buddies. After being led-on about getting a table for 20 min before And after closing our bar tab. We were about to go to the Bristol right down the street, which has amazing drink list and menu. But a Hostess said "Wait! Don't leave! Your table is ready, did you pay your bar tab?" and I replied, "Uh, Like Yeah, Sheesh Like 20 minutes ago." I didn't mean to mock her but I think it came out like that. So she quietly led us to a table. The Whole experience was poopy for a while, probably because we were calling the staff by name and other tables may have heard us talking about how poopy everything was and they were "like, wow this is poopy for me too." And then the neighbors who's windows share the benevolent "Ba-Shah-Shah-Shah!" that echoes from the lot where the outdoor patio is built, turned up the music and faced the stereo at the patio diners... and then it cooled down.... and then the music got louder. And I thought well, maybe its the management. Maybe they got big too fast. But then I thought- they're not big- what am I thinking- they're disorganized.
All of these thoughts and some others may have polluted the air along with that rock music from the next door neighbors defending their rights to have a noise pollutant free environment in this so- stroller neighborhood. Eventually, the server caught on, and then she insulted us. And then another server insulted us. (but I'm not going to say anything about this because she looks emaciated anyway) And After the insults they started being attentive to our table. Mid- way through desert. The waitress must have felt bad because they brought us a second desert.
If you go, make sure that you subconsciously test the waitstaff about the theories of Duchamp. They wont get it.
I forgot about the food.
Oh, But the Valet was Super-Star Quick!

I have friends that live around the corner, and while we tried someplace closer, they were packed and so my friends suggested this place. The interior and exterior design is great, although be ware of the seating outdoors which allows strangers to be seated at your table (may be the same thing indoors? Which I'm not a fan of unless it's a beer garden, not a pricy restaurant. My risotto wasn't cooked at all and I didn't taste the lobster bisque the risotto was supposedly cooked in. My friend's thought thier meal was better than mine, although we all left hungry and didn't feel it was worth the price. I would have rather waited the hour to be seated at one of the other restaurants a few doors over. I won't be back for the food, but maybe for a drink, if the bar area gets larger.

I had such high hopes for Duchamp, and have been anxious to try it. What a disappointment. Last night's dinner was one of the worst I have had in a very long time. The menu is divided into two sections- small and large plates. The small plates were your average appetizer size portions and the large were, well, the same size as the small. Averaging $20 for a large plate, you would think these portions would be a slight bit more substantial than the small plates. Thankfully, you won't want more food since it was all bland. Everything from the white pizza to the risotto to the fries were flavorless. Again, what a disappointment. There are too many good restaurants in Chicago to ever reconsider going back to Duchamp.

Their burger is one of, if not the best entree I've had in the city. Also, their cheese plates are top notch.

I went with a group and had such a great experience here last weekend! Even though we made a reservation, we still had to wait a while to get seated. It was completely worth it though. Wine list was great- surprisingly offered some reasonably-priced great bottles of wine. We ordered a bunch of small plates and a few big ones, and everything we had was absolutely delicious. What really stood out was the burger- one of the best I have ever had!! We couldn't stop talking about it afterward! I will definitely be back.

The large plates should be considered small plates. The portions are very small. After a round of two appetizers and a main entry "large plate" left the the place hungry.

I tried to writ a review, but there is no way I can write, in less than 1000 characters, how much of an unpleasant experience this was. So I will just say a word of advice to the guy in the chef jacket running around worrying about tables and seating.. Get back in the kitchen and fix the food. You wont have to worry about seating if the quality of the food doesn't improve quickly!!!
