The trio from Lumen (Jason Freiman, Peter Gogarty and Nick Podesta) and Michael Taus (chef-owner of Zealous) are behind this globally influenced contemporary American spot in Bucktown. Though Taus is involved, Duchamp isn't as upscale (or as expensive) as Zealous. The menu includes both large and small plates, with prices topping out at $19. Expect Asian-influenced choices such as East Meets West Hot Wings, dishes with French flair such as smoked salmon tartar with creme fraiche and caper blini, and spins on American staples such as steak and eggs (grilled skirt steak with parmesan-smoked bacon quiche and roasted shallot sauce). Gogarty, who's behind the trippy minimalist interior at Lumen, also handled this project. There's a rustic-modern interior fitted with walnut and reclaimed textiles and a mingle-friendly communal seating plan. In warmer months, the sweet off-street patio operates full-force, with several communal tables for dining and a separate lounge area for cocktailing.
