Update: Dodo closed after service October 28. Owners are opening at a new address (2003 W. Fulton Market) late summer or early fall of 2008.
When we heard the name of this spot we wondered – why would anyone name a restaurant after a long-extinct flightless bird or well, an idiot? Owners Kim Dalton and William Kasser, former waiters at Mia Francesca, actually named the eatery after family members – they both happen to have a relative with the nickname "Dodo" (and no, they're not idiots). The tiny 20-seater (which is in the former Privata Cafe space) features breakfast (like tamales and eggs) and lunch (like a roasted pork and aged provolone with rapini on ciabatta bread), plus "breakunch," which is Dodo's version of brunch (the Saturday and Sunday breakunch menu offers a handful of weekly rotating specials). The eatery also has a premium coffee and loose tea focus.
