A Sleeper?

Dan McGee's is one of the best restauarnts in the CHI-metro area. We frequently patronize downtown and north side restaurants, but Dan McGees will save us a lot of gas and time.

The Chef's formal training was at the Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in Hyde Park, NY. We have eaten at the CIA many times, and some of the chefs they produce are great - Dan is one of those.

Salads are presented in Dan's signature parmesan cheese shell. Entrees are excellent, and the portion sizes are generous. Desserts are very good.

Restaurant is stylish, but minimalist. Nice for couples or small groups.

You will have great difficulty finding a restaurant at this level for the money.

Best in Frankfort

That being said this place wouldn't last 6 weeks in the city. But when you are stuck eating in the south suburbs you only have about 2 options other than Chili's. Food and menu great. A little disappointed in the wine list. Servers should be higher quality and educated on wine pairings for these prices. To be honest, this is why I don't eat in the South Suburbs.

Best in the Area

It has been great having Dan in the Southern Suburbs and in partiular Frankfort. We moved here recently and heard that it was good from our neighbors, but every time that we have gone, we say to each other that it's consistently better then anyone had said. I don't know why DM's doesn't recieve more glowing reviews. When we are looking for fine dining for the two of us or to entertain guests, we choose DM's most every time. To dine as well as you can here, the closest spot is Courtwright's or Vie and I hope that Dan doesn't mind being compared to those two fine establishments.
Oh one last point. I am sorry that I don't know her name but there is a young woman that has been our server each time that we have been there. She always has done a great job making our evening even more enjoyable then it would have already been.
Go go go. You won't be disappointed.

A true gem in the south suburbs. Long overdue for a fine dining restaurant, reasonably priced for a quality meal.
Been here on four occasions and never disappointed. Definitely a favorite of mine.

Dan McGee's a Hidden Gem in Frankfort on Rte 30
By trainerm2003 from Frankfort, June 1, 2008

Overall rating:

Hidden in a small strip mall next to a dentist office is a slice of modern elegance.  A limited menu but every option both appetizer and entree were all enticing and I wasn't disappointed with my halibut selection nor were my guests with their steak entrees.  Prices were reasonable and the wine selection sufficient.  If you haven't visited Dan McGee's you should go - you're missing out otherwise.

Delicious

We have been to Dan McGee's on more than one occasion and have been thrilled with the food. It is fantastic that great food has come to the suburbs. I get tired of eating at chain restaurants and thinking the food is delicious - it isn't but Dan's is! The risotto is amazing and every entree has been cooked to perfection.

average and overpriced.

Difficult to spot this place along Route 30 in Frankfort. Unassuming store front in a strip mall. Understated decor, but tasteful. Which is more than I can say for the food. Average at best. For starters, I had the gnocci with lobster and corn sauce. Good, but not great. I ordered the roasted chicken with a corn bread stuffing and sauce made with red wine. Again, good, but not worth the hefty price. A few spears of asparagus were also on the plate. My husband's salmon was also average. Slathered uncreatively with dijon mustard and served on a bed of wild rice with soy sauce. Based on previous reviews, my hopes were high to finally have a first rate place to dine in the southern suburbs. Too pricey for the average food we received.

Great Food; Bad Acoustics
By Hoots513 from Frankfort, March 13, 2008

I had the chance to dine at Dan McGee's last month with my family. Although the food was awesome, the acoutics are horrendous. We had a party of 10 and those in the middle of the table could not hear conversations at either end because the overall acoustics are such that it is extremely loud when all the tables are filled. The restaurant itself is small and quaint and the service was great. I had steak with maytag blue cheese resting on a bed of mashed potatoes and asparagus. We ordered every dessert and all shared, trying each one. The food overall was fabulous. Now, if they just would get some sort of sound barriers on the ceiling, I think Dan McGee's could be one of those "our special place" restaurants.

Valentines Day Dinner
By wilsha04 from South Suburbs, February 26, 2008

Dan McGee's Restaurant just opened up in Frankfort, thank goodness! What a gem! My husband and I went there for dinner on Valentines day. Surprisingly, it wasn't crouded. I ordered the valentines day special consisting of an appetizer, soup, a main course and dessert. The appetizer was gnocchi in a cream sauce with grilled corn and lobster. Coooked to perfection, the little dumplings just melted in my mouth and i have been craving grilled corn ever since. The soup was beautifully presented: three soups in one bowl. Black bean, butternut squash, and roasted red pepper soups were poured such the the red, orange, and black remained seperate. The textures were similar and the flavors complementory, a wonderful surprise. The main course was beef tenderloin with green beans, nicley seared and the grean beans had just enough bite. All in all, highly recomended. The service was friendly and attentive however, not very informed about the menu.
