Crofton on Wells takes its name from proprietor and chef Suzy Crofton, whose resume includes Sinclair's in Lake Forest, Le Francais in Wheeling and Montparnasse in Naperville. Here she assembles a seasonal menu blending American cuisine -- game, seafood and vegan dishes -- with classic French touches. Mid-priced Californian and French wines make up an extensive selection. Aside from a wavy gilt mirror on the back wall and some flower arrangements, the decor avoids flash in favor of serenity.
