Chicago Firehouse Restaurant: User Reviews
I came to the Chicago Firehouse not knowing what to expect!!!! I was greeted by a very professional mait're d who seated us promptly, pulled out our chairs, and made some excellent recommendations which our server soon confirmed. We were offered a meat tray that showed us what cuts of meat they offered and how they looked. This was very important to me as I am very picky when it comes to steak and I feel I myself can cook a GREAT one - so my standards are very high. I am pleased to say that the Firehouse did not disappoint me - in fact, I was rather impressed...by my whole experience From the moment we walked in the door we dealt with nothing but professionals. From the door to the waitstaff, the bussers, even the valet, our entire experience was top-notch. Don't miss a chance to visit the Firehouse!!!!!

We went to the Chicago Firehouse on a weekday evening for a birthday party. We arrived and the host was a bit awkward. We felt a bit underdressed since everyone in there seemed to be a businessman in their suits and ties. Environment aside we ordered dinner. I ended up with the free range chicken. When the plate arrived I was mind blown. The menu should have said free range chicken leg. For $20 I ended up with a chicken quarter and a few au gratin potatoes there were for the most part all overly salted. Very disappointed at the portions. Everyone else at the table seemed to have the same issue. I am guessing if I ever go back I should try the steak to see if they can ever redeem themselves...

Have eaten here many times and I can honestly say if I'm in the mood for a filet I feel the need to go no futher than Chicago Firehouse to get it. Every time I have had it, the filet has been melt in your mouth good, always cooked just the way I like it. My husband has also never had a bad steak there either - he's tried both dry aged and wet aged and we agree - this is a great place for a steak! I'm a huge fan of the lobster bisque, but I had a fish dish once that was a little less than impressive. Stick with steak.

Chicago Firehouse was very disappointing. With such a high priced menu and wine list, it definitely did not measure up. The food was average and overpriced. The cutlery was dirty. Most upsetting was the attempt to serve a lousy glass of white wine in place of a $15 glass of Sonoma-Cutrer 2007. $15 a glass even for that is at the upper limit of reasonable--maybe if it was Spiaggia, but Chicago Firehouse felt like a trussed up Olive Garden. Had I not been familiar with the wine, I would have been duped. The server came back with a lame excuse that the bartender poured the wrong thing--and by the way--"we are all out of Sonoma Cutrer." They even tried to bill me $15 for the cheaper substitute. If they had simply comped the wine I wouldn’t even be writing this-don't waste your money here.

I went there tonight wtih my boyfriend and his mom and we were very very disappointed. I ordered the porkchops which was recommended by the waitress and they were aweful. I don't know what it was seasoned with, but I could not even have the plate in front of me the smell was so bad. After 15 min of waiting for her to come to the table she asked if I wanted something else so I went with the chicken, which was not much better than the pork chops. My boyfriend filet looked like it was going to get off his plate at any second and start mooing. He likes it rare, but even he thought it was ridiculous. We decided to get dessert, which is my favorite part of any meal and that was even dissappointing. It was chocolate banana bread pudding. If you didn't have the chocolate chips in your spoonful it had absolutely no flavor. I can literally count on one hand the times I have sent something back or that I filled out a comment card to express my displeasure so this place had to be pretty bad. I will never go back again nor would I EVER recommend this place to anyone. Bad food and mediocore service.

I can't think of one nice thing to say about Chicago Firehouse. My family and I went to for Christmas Eve dinner. This was our first and only time dining at this terrible restaurant. Salads were mediocre but priced at fine dining prices. Soups were terrible. Entrees were not worth a quarter of the price and my husband's fish was not edible. With wine left in our bottle, the busser tried on two occaisions to remove it from the table and then gave me an attitude when I told him we weren't finished yet. Then tried to remove my glass of wine with some still left in the glass. I'm really surprised the Chicago Firehouse stays in business - I'll never go back and am irritated I wasted a night there. Don't waste your time or money either, you will be disappointed.

Trying new restaurants to celebrate our birthdays has been a long tradition and this one turned out to be disappointing and worth commenting on. We had 7:00 PM reservations and ended up with our seating being in the bar area. Service was slow to approach our table for drink orders and bread came later with no butter. The crab appetizer was ok , the Lobster bisque needed taste and the Onion Soup was good. The ribeye steaks was very fatty and not to our order. The double baked and the augratin potato had a weird cheese tasting not to our liking. The creme burlee was nothing to write home about. Adding some drinks to the dinner, we ended with a $200+ bill without tip. Overall disappointing and will not return.

I was excited to eat here, and made a Saturday night reservation for my birthday & also a friend's birthday two weeks in advance. I travel for work and was only planning to be in town on Saturday for the celebration.
Needless to say, I was shocked and stunned when the restaurant called and left me a voicemail two days before my reservation to cancel because they had booked a private party. I called back to make sure I understood that yes, in fact, they were cancelling a Saturday night in Chicago reservation on Thursday because, essentially, they had gotten a better offer. The gentleman with whom I spoke offered to get me a reservation at a second rate chain seafood restaurant in tourist town. Not acceptable.
I had to scramble to find an alternative...not an easy thing to do in Chicago for a Saturday night reservation when it is Thursday afternoon. I did not get into several of my choices. We finally ended up at Keefer's, which is a favorite and a tried and true choice of both myself and my dining companion. I recommend Keefer's highly and will be pleased to give them my business in future. Of course, I will never attempt to eat at Chicago Firehouse again.

This place is just....ok.
The service was amazing. I ordered a steak and it was well-done when I ordered medium rare, and the waitress was so kind and took back the steak, as well as took all of the side dishes off the table to warm them up while I was waiting for a new steak, which is first-class service right there.
But the restaurant decor isn't amazing, more like a regular bar, and the food is decent, but for the price (which is expensive) you could go to one of the more upscale steakhouses and get it all. Average steakhouse overall.

"Please convey to the entire staff, a huge THANK YOU. Everyone loved the food - from the appetizers to the desserts. The staff was extremely attentive and gracious. We love this place. What a relief to walk into the West Room and have everything exactly as I wanted. Vanessa made my job so much easier. The food displays were beautiful. Our company owner and CEO, and company President were thrilled. We will see you again next year --- can't wait. There was one complaint - several people have mentioned they are "craving" some of the delicious food and wanted to know if I had smuggled any out."
