Do not get fish here, the artic char was very average- too plain and no taste. Ribs were good but not better than most grillhouses. Deserts were too plain and limited. Grilled artichoke was good though, especially the sauce that it comes with. The Rib eye steak was huge and succulent, but there was a lot of fat which added to the flovor but was annoying to have to cut around. Enchiladas were pretty good, but the rice and vegetables were bad. Obviously not that fresh or moist and lacking taste. Better just for lunch as their sandwiches are significantly less pricey and good... for sandwiches (fries are a nice touch). Also note that although they say they have a full bar, they had a poor beer selection, very few and lacking specialty drinks and no patron or nicer liquor.

I've always like this place since discovering it about a year ago. Considering you ARE on Michigan Avenue, the pricing isn't too bad at all. Check out the wine pricing! That is down right cheap!
The food here is pretty solid overall. It's pretty simple stuff, fresh and good flavors. The "Center Cut Filet" isn't a Filet though, it's a Chuck Tender... While decent enough, it isn't a Filet Mignon as you may expect. For $30.00, you are NOT getting a Filet Mignon.
I like the room quite a bit. it's got a dark and "incognito" feel. The Jazz band can be a bit obnoxious but mostly good if the level is low. Never had a problem with the service, always friendly and affable. Again, their wine pricing is AMAZING though, so some things are a relative bargain.
My suggestion to them for their "Filet"... put on a flat-iron or a good sirloin. A Hanger Steak! Give people what they expect to pay for and don't call a Chuck Tender a Filet.

My husband and I enjoyed our recent dinner at Bandera, but we felt that the food was grossly overpriced. We resented having to pay for bread, and $18.00 for spit roasted chicken is a bit much!! But we loved looking out onto Michigan Avenue and listening to the jazz trio while we ate. And even though the restaurant was extremely busy, the noise was never overwhelming.

Excellence in service and cuisine quality is hallmark of Banderas, one of my favorite restaurants in the Chicago-land area. Bandera's high quality wait-staff provide a warm and courteous dining experience.

Bandera is an excellent choice for classic American dining in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. The live jazz lends itself to the classy and contemporary embiance. The menu is somewhat limited in the quantity of available items, but there is no shortage of quality selections. It can get very busy, but the bar is a great spot to hang out while you wait for your table. Get a window seat if you can and try to decide what you like best, the location or the food. Happy dining, I give this place 2 big thumbs up!

I've had several good experiences at Bandera and the only problem I've ever run into is that the last time I ate there I felt rushed. They brought out our entrees before we were halfway through our appetizers. Just to clear a few things up from other reviews, the cornbread is actually on the menu, and has been every time I've eaten there, and a friend told me that the ketchup comes in small cups because it's homemade.

Stopped by for a 3pm lunch on a recent Saturday, expecting a good meal tho many yrs since last there. Huge disappointment! Menu extremely limited. Remembered the corn bread as being yummy but didn't see it on the menu. When I asked our server, it was available but why not on the menu? Service was terrible. Out came my friend's iced tea(where was the ice?)then my Bloody Mary showed up 10 mins later. The cornbread arrived but waitress disappeared another 10 mins before we could ask for butter. We both ordered burgers, just OK. I hate it when they bring the ketchup in little cups and when I asked for Worcestershire sauce, they didn't seem to know what I was talking about and 10 mins later, that came in a little cup, too! The waitress packed our leftovers in 1 bag & when we asked for another since we were going separate ways; we had to ask again 10 mins later. Won't be going back.

I have eaten here before and it was ok-We were sat in a weird spot, but this time we were sat by the window, but we had the jazz band behind us and honestly I was ready to choke the band members b/c they were so loud! The guy on the drumbs made me jump every time he hit it hard-
I ordered the prime rib sandwich, it was ok but they put so much butter on it I thought it was swiss cheese! So it was very oily-And the au juis was brown water, I could get a better one at Quizno's-I won't go back again-
