My husband and I went to Dragonfly on Monday because we had a 50% off industry card for all food and drink on Sundays and Mondays. To start off the night I had the Dragonfly cocktail which was quite tasty, to eat I had the Honey Walnut Prawns. The first but was ok, but after the first bit the overpowering sweetness became overwhelming. My husband had the Mongolian steak which was actually quite good. I also had a watermelon martini which was ok, but I wouldn't recommend since you can get much better watermelon martinis elsewhere. We passed on dessert since nothing on the menu sounded that appealing. We will be back on Sundays or Mondays but only because we have the 50% off card.

This place is awful! Not only are they EXTREMELY rude and the chef is completely rude, I ordered the honeymoon chicken and there was no while meat at all. Actually, I'm not even sure there was any dark meat- nothing but deep fried fat and grizzle. disgusting!

food, ok, you can definitely find much much better food in any chinatown restaurant with much better price
service, a big fat 0 from our waitress, maybe some other servers are better, with the price of the food and drinks, this is ....
doors locked at 1030 with some bouncer guys at the door for some party upstairs :(

Food- not impressive

It seemed like a good place when we walked in but the service was slow and the play was only 1/2 full. The food was less than impressive. The staff was nice & I like the overall ambiance but the food was not worth the price at all.

Don't go here - Horrible attitude
By bobwho from Chicago, January 18, 2009

I went here recently on a friend's recommendation. It was a cold winter night so I had a stylish leather jacket on and wanted to keep it on. They wouldn't let me keep the coat. They said it was a rule that every coat had to be coat checked. I looked around and saw at least 3 other people with coats on. Then a girl had her coat on and they wouldn't let her go up. But after some discussion they let her pass. Then we I pointed this out they said I was being obnoxious, but could go upstairs if I wanted. Then I find out I was talking with one of owners. Absolutely horrible manners. This place is more concerned about making a dollar off of their coat check than if their customers are comfortable. I would have easily dropped over a $100 on drinks on this place. I won't ever go back to such a place with an attitude like this.

No idea whatsoever..awful

Soft shell crab not crispy and hot but like fish that had been cooked in old batter. Satay were OK but peanut sauce creamy. Fiery curry hot rice with chicken ugly mess of a lot of rice , cheap curry powder and no real heat. Fillet of snapper an insipid vague fish flavour. Fish was staemed but still watery in a salty cheap sauce. Bathroom no soap and no atmosphere. Won't survive the recession and ought not to. Sauvingnon by the bottle aws cheap, no lemony grassy tones. OH why go on...dreadful

Mediocre at Best
By jimmyv from East Lakeview, November 1, 2008

Upon entering, the first thing you notice is the awkward decor. To the right, is a huge bar that takes up the majority of the first floor, and to the left is the dining room, featuring a wall of large umbrellas (the miniature likes of which you typically find in tropical, fruity drinks).

The tables too are awkward. You're positioned to place your legs between the table legs, but with just enough room to fit. And if you're a larger person, forget it! The color scheme was a little off-setting and was too bright and busy to promote a fine dining ambiance. Worst of all was the music. It was some cheesy Chinese version of what seemed like cartoon or anime music. I would have rather sat in silence than listen to what they were playing.

The food was okay, but did not meet expectations. Everything was drenched in sauce, or was too oily. Restaurants with good ingredients and good chefs do not need to mask their shortcomings behind heavy, salty sauces and lots of oil.

Our server was pleasant, however, she was not well educated on the wines she was serving, which made any recommendation she might offer completely useless. The best thing about the service was the prompt water service which (I'm sorry to say) was tragically essential after ingesting more salt than would ever be recommended.

When the dessert menu came, we noticed that it was comprised from catalog pictures, indicating that nothing was made in-house. This was a huge turn-off.

Overall, I cannot recommend this restaurant. It's a shame Dragonfly can't raise itself to the level of its neighboring competitors.

Great food! Poor value!
By gd from Bridgeport, June 5, 2008

The food is really excellent! But the portions are tiny! Even if you order an appetizer and entree, you'll still leave there hungry, but with a bill of over $20. If you go, I definitely recommend you do a google search for coupons as they have lots of $40 off $70 bill coupons. That coupon makes it worth it to go. The busboys are great, but the servers have been pretty slow.

i will never go to this JOKE of a restaurant again! food, terrible! service, abysmal! ambiance, ok. after waiting 45 minutes for our drinks we were ready to walk out. were convinced by our server to stay, then waited another 50 minutes for our awful food. place turns into a club after dinner so we decided to stay(why did we do this?!?!?!). ordered a french connection and was charged for both ingredients in the drink(hennessy/amaretto) upwards of $40. STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS!!!!!!!!

You can't have everything here
By smarin757 from Chicago North, February 23, 2008

let's start w/the positive-family dinner menu is a good value. For 2, each a bowl of soup, a sampling of an appetizer, 2 entrees (no seafood option) and 2 desserts for $40.00-the review goes downhill from here. The chicken didn't have much flavor but the beef was incredibly salty-the server didn't bother to ask why we didn't touch the beef-although she was nice. The crab cheese appetizer I thought was good, although their sweet and sour sauce wasn't tangy enough. My husband doesn't eat onions so he didn't like the appetizer since there was onion in the cream cheese mix. The bartender did mix a good lycheetini though. Much prefer the foood, ambience and service at Ben Pao's more. They come out with a below average rating for the following reasons:
-45 minute wait even w/reservations-the other party waiting left-then got sat smashed up next to the exit door where the draft of the freezing weather was hitting me.
-less than average food for the prices-here you're paying for the area-
-To top it off-A forced coat check to stay for the entertainment afterwards of $3/jacket.
They did apologize twice for the wait.
What they should have done-
-After 20 minutes of waiting, offered at least a soda or ice water while we waited at the bar.
-The server should have noticed we did not touch one of the entrees. A good server should ask if there was something wrong w/that particular dish.
-complimentary coat check after the 45 minute wait and spending close to $100.
I was just so turned off by the whole experience.
