Chen's Chinese and Sushi: User Reviews

After walking past Chen's and reading reviews, I suggested this spot for my birthday dinner with friends. For the most part, the food was good (two people got the black duck and neither one enjoyed it; however, the crab rangoon was a hit). However, it was not good enough to put up with such poor service.

Our waitress forgot one guest's sushi order until he brought it to her attention (she noted the error but didn't apologize) and mixed up the to-go bags (didn't realize until we got home). She dropped the bill off without asking if anyone was interested in dessert etc. Generally, this is not a big deal, however it was a birthday night (as mentioned when the reservation was made) and everyone was ready to indulge in some sweets. We couldn't flag down our waitress, so asked another employee if they had a dessert menu. Our waitress dropped it off at our table without saying a word. We sat behind the hostess stand; a friend past the stand and heard statff say (after turning around and looking at us) that our table would be open soon.

I understand wanting to turnover clients, however, that does not excuse the rude service we received. We all ordered drinks, entrees, and even dessert. We weren't lingering over one cup of tea, but rather trying to enjoy a Saturday evening with friends. Next time we crave some Asian food we're trying another neighborhood joint.

Best days to go are mid-week for drink specials. The food has been excellent every time. Split the meal because it's plenty. The sesame chicken is not to battered and there is never a wait. The place gets busy after 7:00 p.m. Staff varies, but usually friendly and helpful with suggestions. I've enjoyed every visit to this great spot in Wrigleyville.

I ate at Chen's for the first time Saturday night, and I must say, it was FABULOUS. The portions are HUGEEEEE so you get your moneys worth (it's more pricey..sesame chicken was $12.95 but its enough for 2 meals). My friend and I shared an appetizer (the crab ragoon which were WONDERFUL) and the sesame chicken and a bottle of wine. The decor and ambiance is really nice, and mmm..food is so good! Definitely recommend it!

I used to LOVE Chen's! It was my Chinese food of choice and we ate it a lot... Their food was fresh, tasty and the service was fast and reliable... Now, however, the service is consistently inconsistent, the food isn't as good and I've been displeased overall with just about everything except the look of the place which is still very sleek and stylish.

I forgot how much I loved Chen's food until I ate there again last night (it has been almost 2 years). If you love Sesame Chicken (beef, shrimp, etc) order this - it is the perfect combination of spicy/sweet. They use the perfect amount of breading.

Chen's has a great selection of sushi and Chinese food at very reasonable prices.

I highly recommend this restaurant.

This place is awesome for delivery- tonight they literally knocked on our door about 15 minutes after we called in our order. They always make things the way we ask (we love the low fat options) and their food is GREAT. Haven't tried the sushi or been in to dine, but we will do both for sure!

My wife and I eat at Chen's on a regular basis. Not only is the service excellent, the food is delicious. The martini list is great, too (I think Wednesday is half-price martini night). We recommend Chen's to all of our friends.
