Ben Pao: User Reviews
Very polite, friendly waiters. Also give really good sugestions.
Food is good, not great
Nice ambience, gives a nice cosy feel
I had been there many times with friends, and once when my parents were visiting me, I took them to this place.... My parents do not easily get impressed... they might just hate a place because of one tiny detail (like pictures not being in sync with the ambience), but they definetely liked this place...

From start to finish the experience with this restaurant was horrible. I was in a good mood with a smile on my face when I came to this restaurant. Unfortunately, I had the exact opposite when I left.
Valets that are rude and give you an attitude.
A manager made aware of the issue with the valets who did absolutely nothing. Not looking for a free meal but, “Hey”, how about an apology??
A completely clueless hostess who seats half your party that arrived early and then fails to inform the rest of the party when they arrive on time that your party has been already been seated so you end up waiting at the bar for 15 minutes before you figure it out. Not that difficult of a task for a host when reminded twice and when the place is not that busy.
Unresponsive bartenders that you have to literally set yourself on fire to get their attention. Again, the place was not that busy.
A limited, uncreative menu with over-priced mediocre food. I’ve had better Chinese food from a Lean Cuisine frozen entree.
I would avoid this place at all cost, walk a couple blocks East and go to PF Changs.

I love this place. The food is excellent and the atmospher is very inviting. I definately reccomend you go for someone birthday and give the birthday persons name in advance. we went for a friends b-day and I made the reservations and gave her name. When we got there our table had a sheet of paper in the center witht the b-day girls name on and a few appetizer, entree, dish, nad dessert recommendations. Later when she got her b-day dessert, it had happy b-day so and so wrtten in chocolate around the plate! What a treat! Now that is how you value your customers, and it helped make my friends b-day even more memorable.

I went to Ben Pao for my 4yr anniversary of marriage. The food was great!! My husband is very picky about his food and he ate very well and loved the flavor.. This is a place where all age groups would enjoy!!! Great service..

The restaurant is really very impressive. The food was good, and the general idea behind it is very enjoyable: serious Chinese food instead of another "China Moon Buffet." Our particular selections were very enjoyable, all prepared excellently and presented well in a slightly communal fashion (i.e. separate plates for entrees themselves and what you eat off of, allowing for better sharing should you be interested) that allowed us to both enjoy each other's selections. The ambiance was also nice, with traditional Chinese decorations that were VERY stylish and fun.
Unfortunately, our service was not too impressive. My entree was incorrect (I ordered the Pork Chow Fun and got the beef), and there was a hair in our cucumber salad. When we informed the waitress of the hair, she took the dish and later asked "would you like another?" Needless to say, there were no other offers to make up for the hair in our cucumber salad.
With that said, the waitress did knock down the flower on our table once and nearly a second time, so it is possible that she was new. A different server could have handled the hair more properly and may not have confused the order, leading the rating above to be a very impressed four stars. As I'd expect no repeat problems, this restaurant comes highly recommended for a tasty, hip, and inexpensive night out.

My colleagues and I went to Ben Pao for lunch and had an amazing time. The server was very friendly and helpful as none of us had eaten there before. There was five of us, but we decided to get their party of six set menu and were very pleased. Their egg rolls and crab rangoons are the best in town by far! If you go, you must get the black pepper seasoned scallops and cherry bomb shrimp, very tasty and a great value. We will definitely be going back!

Wow. I kind of expected the crab rangoon to be normal, but I was amazed. Not only is the presentation completely different, but they use fresh water chestnuts and real crab meat. I love crab rangoon and I don't think I've ever had anything better. The rest of the food was excellent and so where the drinks. I will definately be back!!!!

After this experience, I'm only entrusting my Crab Ragoon cravings to Tai restaurants. Ben Pao's is horrible and over-priced. I'm not a particular fan of the rest of their food either...it tends to be too heavy and rich. Service is also slow...there are better asian restaurants in Chicago.

I've lived in Chicago on and off for 10 years and keep going back to Ben Pao. It's not one of the best restaurants in Chicago, but it's a great value and good food. We particularly love the seven flavor beef and sesame chicken. We are never disappointed when we go there. Love Ben Pao!

A couple of weeks ago I had "Girls' Weekend" with my mom and two sisters. We always do some sort of Chinese restaurant for our first night. I had never been to Ben Pao. I am so glad we went there. The atmosphere was fun, the service was outstanding, and the food was wonderful. The chocolate desert was yummy, yummy, yummy. Also, I made the reservation online along with my table requests, and we got right in at the perfect table. We will definitely go there again, and research other "Let us entertain you" restaurants. Good job Ben Pao!
