Neighborhood: Archer Height/Brighton/ Mc Kinley Park
4125 S. Archer Ave.

Chicago, IL 60632

Price range: $ (Under $9)
This first-rate Salvadoran eatery in Brighton Park has enjoyed tremendous word of mouth.

What the clean, airy dining room lacks in sophistication is more than made up for by the delicious and inexpensive food, including El Salvador's national dish, pupusa (poo-POO-sah), a thick, fried cornmeal patty stuffed with cheese, fried pork or a mixture of the two with refried beans.

Other high points on the menu include the pork and chicken tamales and meat turnovers called pasteles.
