Although El Tinajon does sell crowd-pleasing chips and salsa (Guatemalans call it "chirmol"), the specialty here is Guatemalan food, which stresses soups and stews prepared with meat. "Guatemalan food is not as heavy as Mexican," says one regular. "It's more tasty and not hot." Staffers are happy to dispense advice on the on the menu and describe the differences between Guatemalan beers. The small storefront restaurant is bright and cheerful, with Guatemalan handicrafts on the wall.
