Pupuseria Las Delicias

Amid airbrushed murals of flamingoes standing in blue water beaches, the warm, bi-lingual staff serves food that evokes El Salvador, Honduras and Guatamala while the TV blares Spanish-language music videos. The pupusa is the house specialty. These traditional Salvadoran corn cakes are filled with meats and cheeses, but you can also order a skirt steak, fajitas, or a Colombian or Guatemalan coffee that comes in a screen printed souvenir shop mug, and those scratchy little images of the home country indicate hearts of the Irving Parkers who dine here are. The pupusas are a little oilier than they might be in El Salvador, but here you can choose from among a dozen varieties, and they're served with hot green salsa, cool vinegary slaw, and a tangy red sauce. Best yet: Prices are dirt cheap--two pupusas and rice ring up at just $5.
