Staff is always very friendly. You can count on this place for no frills Costa Rican food. Pretty authentic but best part is the easy-going atmosphere. A lot of fun in the summer.
Best part was that they played Michael Jackson music the whole time as a tribute!

This place is amazing! My friends have been talking about how great this place is for a few years and they were right. The restaurant is intimate and cozy yet lively with all the people both dining and waiting for tables. I highly recommend the tilaphia tacos....they were better than anything that I tasted in Mexico. My only wish is that their glasses were not plastic since wine tastes much better in glass. I will be back soon!!!

I love this place! I have read some reviews that are not too good however I had a great experience. I highly recommend the Veggie Burrito even for meat lovers, it really is the best. You also have to try their oatmeal shake. I tried making it at home but it is the best from here! Their beans and yellow rice have a great flavor, try it out!

I just went to Irazu and was as impressed as I could have ever been. My wife wanted to go and I was not to enthusiastic. After the meal Irazu ranks in my top five of places in all of Chicago. I had the Casado with chicken. The first bite said it all. The Chicken was moist and the spice was perfect. The portions are enormous and makes for an easy leftover. This BYOB also didn't charge us a cork age fee. The Host of Irazu was exceptional nice and appreciative of you business. If you go here and don't enjoy the experience I would be shocked. FYI we went Friday at 730pm and only waited a half hour.

I read all the reviews about the service and decided to do take out. The woman at the counter was somewhat friendly but didn't really want to answer any questions I had. The food however was fantastic. I spent two weeks recently in Costa Rica up in the mountains living with farming family and they food was exactly the same as there. The ingredients did not taste as fresh but the seasonings and flavor were exact! I have to disagree with the food being bland because I think to many people expect Costa Rican to be like Mexican and spicy but most Tico food is not like Mexican.

I tried this place last weekend for the first and last time. I noticed service complaints on this site and had to judge for myself. The service was horrible. I can only hope that someone will read this and not go and maybe they wont be as busy and will actually wait on you. The food was nothing special. I have been to Costa Rica, this place is an insult. Sad

I have been going to Irazu for almost 5 years and I have brought my friends and recommended this restaurant to many people for its good food. I have never been a fan of eating in as i don't like the ambiance. It's small, ugly decor, crowded, and I always feel rushed. We always get our food to go. Last week, we did that and my order was not correct. I called and I was told by the owner that they changed the recipe and he had told me that on the phone. I have ordered this dish for the past year and I didn't know it changed. He said "what do you want me to do about it?" and i said i would like something else. I told him what i wanted and then he hung up on me. When I went back to Irazu he YELLED AT ME - THE CUSTOMER in front of everyone when i walked in the door. He said he didn't appreciate me yelling at him on the phone and again said he had told me the preparation of the dish i ordered changed. I did not yell at him and even if i would of, I am the customer! He then made me wait close to 15 minutes for my order and they were not even busy. My parents have owned a fine dining restaurant for 40 years and they would never yell at a customer, never. I was very upset with the way i was treated and I want to make sure everyone knows about the rude service i received. What really bothered me is that i have only said great things about this place and sent tons of customers to them, and this is what i received in return. I still cannot believe the way I was treated.

I have lived in Bucktown for 8 years and never have I had such rude service. They make you feel like they are doing you a favor by serving you. The food....yes its cheap, its bland at best, never any specials that steer left of the same menu there for years.

I cannot say enough good things about this quaint little Costa Rican Haven! The food is UNBELIEVABLE delicious! Our waiter was very attentive and the atmosphere is fun and friendly! Great Chicago-land spot you can take your friends to or any out of towners - epidomizes Chicago at it's best! Then we got our check - I just about fell over!!! You get alot of bang for your buck in this Bucktown spot! Highly recommend it! Oh, and don't forget to order the Vegetarian Burrito...AWESOME!

I have eaten in once and takeout several times - the veggie burrito is A+ and the shakes just the same. I finally tried the casado w/ chicken and it was superb. I literally almost called them from home to tell them how delicious it was! At first I thought this was a place to go when "in the mood" for costa rican food, but after my last experience I think I'll be in the mood quite a bit more often...
