Chef Esmeralda Melendez melds her passion for Caribbean food with her Latin American heritage to create an eclectic menu of affordable eats at this South Side BYOB. Puerto Rican jibarito sandwiches, meat and veggies served between two pressed, deep-fried green plantains, are popular with the neighborhood crowd. Other choices include Jamaican jerk chicken, Cuban roasted pork sandwiches and stuffed green banana tamales. The name kapeekoo comes from Mendez's memories of her father, whose domino games would end in victory after he shouted out the term.
