Takeout-spot J&R Caribbean Hut branches out into sit-down dining with this 75-seat Bronzeville location. Husband-and-wife team Jacqueline and Roy Taylor strive to offer a taste of their homelands (she's from Barbados; he's from Jamaica), both literally and metaphorically. The menu's filled with jerked-up faves like chicken, shrimp, ribs and an assortment of fish, plus oxtail, calallo (Jamaican greens) and vegetarian options. The eatery doesn't serve alcohol, but does offer a lineup of imported soft drinks like ginger beer, Ting and Kola Champagne, the Islands' version of cream soda. The casual atmosphere goes for a Caribbean vibe with potted palms and TVs playing reggae videos and concerts.
