Hit all of my senses. Great service. We were there on Thursday night early and later it got pretty crowded but our server did not miss a beat. Food was great large portions for the price. The music was HOT!!

Nice and Local
By MLady from Crenshaw, December 17, 2008

It's a nice jazz place. Small and intimate, with the live band and singing performances, I enjoy the ambiance of the dimmed room full of couches and tables. Matter of fact, that is probably the only thing I really enjoy. The menu is very limited, and many of the entrees do not stick out to me. However, it is a nice and local jazz restaurant.

I will return despite a few areas of concern
By Shy from Loop, September 6, 2008

I went to Blu 47 on my birthday 10/25/07. The ambience was great with an exception of the music. They had live music, which was great, but the music was incredibly loud for such a small place. I left with a headache.

The food was great. Blu 47 has the best lamb chops I have ever tasted! They were phenonmenal. Dessert was great as well. My friend had blackened tilapia and it was excellent.

The only thing that concerned me was the service. My server was all over the place, so I was wondering how the server sections were divided. When she came by she was great. She was friendly. Our empty plates layed in front of us for a substantial amount of time, before it was picked up. We ran out of water, and it took forever to get more.

Despite some areas of service, I would give it another chance, because the food over-compensated for the rest of my concerns.

Sunday brunch a must...
By J from Suburbs, January 23, 2008

Overall rating:

I've dined at Blu 47 for dinner and brunch on a few occasions. However, recently the brunch has definitely caught my attention and I don't care for buffet brunches. Last Sunday, the menu selection and preparation exceeded my expectations. The food was fresh, specifically the catfish and smothered pork chops (w/gravy) were tasty. Including a mimosa in the price of the buffet is a nice addition. Keep it up and I'll become a regular!

The owner needs to put in some work

I just moved to the city and I heard about this place. I went there two weeks ago. At first glance I was pleased. It has no signage and made me feel like I was at a VIP spot with the elevator entrance. But the second and third glance left me with other feelings. The server didn't seem to care about my water glass being dirty when I pointed it out. Now for the food: calamari was great, but took a while to get it. The pork chops dry and tasteless, pasta dish overcooked and cold but the Tuscan salad was very warm and wilted!! I asked to speak to their head chef, David Blackman but was told he doesn't work there anymore. I later found out he has been gone for a while. With a place like this, the owner should look into finding another chef and better waitstaff. Note to owner: your place can do nothing but improve.

Nice Ambiance Bad Service
By Tre from Bronzeville, December 23, 2007

Overall rating:

I've visited this place twice and each time they've disappointed me. The first time I visited was on my birthday. Needless to say the service was slow, I had hair in my food, and the complimentary dessert was deplorable (frozen cheesecake). The second time I visited this restaruarant I was hoping that they would redeem themselves....well, they didn't. The service was really slow even though there was not a full house. Our waiter took forever to bring our drinks. We also received luke warm food, meaning that our food was sitting until the waiter apparently felt like bringing it out. I will most definitely not recommend this place to anyone until management realizes that it is the customers who can ultimatlely make or break this place, not just the appeal of having a restaurant in Bronzeville.

Bad Service
By dA architect from Hyde Park, November 16, 2007

I try to book an event here after reading some of the good & bad reviews and all I got was the run around; the event coordinator never called me back after leaving a message. If I didn't call her I would never heard nothing and then when I finally got to talk with some one to book the event, the gentleman said he would call me back and I never heard nothing from him. To bad because I heard some good things about the place, but first impression means a lot to me. They obviously didn't want my service and I'm not about to give it to them no time soon. I guess I'm not going to get a chance to experience the food.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
By acutec1 from auburn- gresham, November 5, 2007

Overall rating:

I heard so much about this restaurant and my sister and niece had a birhtday coming so
I decided to have a celebration at Blu 47. We had our own room - it was 15 of us and the service, food and over all attention was good. They had a great band and singer to entertain us and overall you couldn't ask for anything more. I will return and hope more people attend this restaurant so we can keep the Downtown flavor on the Southside.

Waiting in Vain
By Celeste from Hyde Park, October 31, 2007

Last night I made a spur-of-the moment dinner reservation at Blu 47 for me and my husband. I figured they wouldn't be too crowded on a Tuesday and sure enough they had a table available the moment we arrived. Sadly, it was all downhill from there. Despite the fact that there were only a few parties seated in the dining room, service was incredibly slow. After waiting way too long for our drinks, and getting assurances from our server (who really was not at fault) that they were "coming up", my husband went to the bar area to speak to a manager. The manager told him "your drink will come when it comes." Alrighty then. We left and will not be back. This place really needs to get a handle on service. Everyone I know who's been there has the same complaint: good food, lousy service. It's too bad because restaurant options are so limited on the south side.

Over priced
By CMM from South Shore, October 29, 2007

Great atmosphere, however there is too much going on with the food and it is over priced. I think my bowl of pasta w/chicken and sausage was almost 20-25$. Great place to sit and listen to mellow music and have drinks.
