Stella's Diner: User Reviews
Stella's Diner

I made a metromix account just to review this diner. I live right down the street and have been going there for Sunday brunch's for quite some time now. Nothing is better than country fried eggs benedict after a long saturday night. I also recommend the gypsy. I'm not a skillet fan but the gypsy is a whole different monster.
I've had one terrible experience on Fathers day when the place was packed and a waiter didn't even come to our table for twenty minutes. That said, I've been there dozens of times now and the service is consistently excellent, the food remarkably well prepared (and fresh), and the ambiance is that of a festive, modern diner. You don't leave with that gross Golden Nugget fluorescent light image.
The food at Stella's really has never disappointed. I recommend everything from the Blackened Chicken Quesadilla to the Meatloaf. I will eat there with friends, and I will eat there with a book. It truly is a neighborhood gem.

Went here some time ago and ordered a taco salad with a few other friends. it was absolutely gross. They covered the thing in a runny chili and put half cooked chicken on top. It tasted totally wrong and I was starving so I stomached what I could with little complaint.. but the next morning I was sorry I didn't send it back. Plus I find the interior nauseating and think it needs to be revamped 100%

My girlfriend and I happened upon Stella's Diner one hungry evening and both of us thought it was incredible. I had a burger and it was the best I have had in a long while! My girlfriend, who does not even like hamburgers, had a bite and was amazed. It had a pure beefy taste that you just don't often find in restaurants. Mac n cheese on the side was tasty, too. Service was great. Overall, I give my experience here an A+.

This is one of the best in the city. On the weekend, people flow out the door... but somehow no one waits more than ten minutes max. The waiters/waitress are phenomenal. Friendly, but not pushing you out the door. All the food is good!!!! Breakfast/Lunch time, my beau and I poor through the breakfast AND the lunch menu and its a tossup! Both are so good, we usually pick one of each. Totally a parent friendly place as well. The mushroom chicken (which comes with mashed potatoes but i can never resist their homemade mac and cheese which i have to sub!) is so fancy you look around to make sure its a local diner. The chocolate diva cake is completely worth saving room for as well. The staff is amazing. After you come in about 3 times, they know you and treat you as family..... Totally Seinfeld experience except with mouthwatering food!

Just as the title reads, this was undoubtedly the worst dining experience of my life. I won't even go into the food which was terrible. I've never been treated worst by a restaurant staff before. It was downright rude. First, we were told 15 minutes for a table. After 20 minutes I asked for an update, and the hostess had clearly forgotten my party which was scribbled off on the top of a different page. It took another 30 minutes to sit down. The food was bad, the waitress didn't come back once to check on us. And now here is the best part... when paying at the front counter, the woman who presumably is either the owner or manager, got confrontational about us waiting for one person in our party to reach the cashier before paying. I've never been treated poorer. There are hundreds of brunches to choose from in this city. My advice is to stay far far away from this place.

The food here was terrible. They messed up dishes I didn't even know could be messed up. I ordered a sandwich (ham, egg and cheese on an English muffin) and after taking two bites, I was waiting for the hidden cameras. The muffin was soggy and the ham was fatty and cold. My hashbrowns were even bland. They may have been freshly cut potatoes, but they were undercooked.
I actually went someplace else and got food immediately after leaving this place. Maybe other things at this place are ok, but I don't think I'll be going back.

my absolute favorite place in chicago. delicious food, and sweet service. love it here, have eaten half of the menu and enjoyed EVERY single thing. try the pumpkin spice cake, it may complete your life.
Report This ReviewI loved that place! Gus even drew me a tatoo on my right wrist, it was cheap and fun. The shake was awesome(PeanutButter)
Report This ReviewI have been eating at stella's for five years and although the staff is wonderful the place is going down hill. What is with the trashy plastic plates and cups!? Portions are smaller and what happend to the bread basket? Bring back larger portions, real dishes, loose the super heros and focus more on the food than the decor.
Report This ReviewExcellent diner food, among the best in east lakeview, which is saying something considering the competition. A bit pricey for what is offered, but is nontheless worthy of praise, and a return visit!
