Great Sandwiches
By mmwright2 from Beverly, July 9, 2009

Overall rating:

I've been to this place a few times now and definitely agree that the food is drastically better than the service. The sandwiches are great-- both times I opted for 1/2 sandwich and 1/2 salad which was still plenty of food. The first time I was here we chose to be seated immediately inside and felt that was a mistake on a Saturday afternoon. We were crammed into a tiny table among a huge crew of families and babies. We had much more space when we sat outside on our second visit. Both times service was pretty bad, but our meals made up for it.

Worst restaurant EVER

Wow; some of you actually got to eat there. I spent 5 hours trying to place simple catering order and got nowhere. When I did actually reach human beings they were completely hopeless and beyond unhelpful. They even put down their own company to a stranger (me). Although I can see why they would do that. I order thousands and thousands of lunches each year and never have I coma across such an incompetent bunch. And that is me being nice, as I work for a relation of the owners.

FINALLY a good bartender!
By Prilla from Wicker Park, April 20, 2009

having lived in the neighborhood for a number of years & having given Jerry's multiple visits i have to day that i was in agreement with the previous reviews sighting faults in the staff. especially the bartenders. many occasions there were people employed at a beer mecca that didn't even drink beer & couldn't describe anything on the list! well, no more. having stopped by for a beer today has given me new hope for Jerry's. our bartender was attentive, knowledgeable, not pushy but never disappeared for hours on end. the food & beer here is great, & now that they have a decent staff (at least on Monday afternoons) i will continue to be a returning customer...

Can't wait for dinner
By Loves Chicago Food from Wicker Park, January 13, 2009

I work in the area and have eaten at Jerry's for lunch a handful of times, giving them the benefit of the doubt each time. Today will be the last time we dine there. The sandwiches aren't as appetizing/tasty and quite overpriced for what you get. My biz partner and I each ordered a sandwich and soft drinks only to get a $33 lunch tab and a growling stomach. The blonde at the host stand has been as disappointing as the food each time we have been there. A waiter was eating his lunch at the table next to us. Their window blinds were hanging half way down the window by a thread, looking as if they might fall on a table any second. Rude service and disappointing food.

Great Food, Dumb Staff
By Nick P from Lincoln Square, January 2, 2009

Seriously, for a guy, there is no better place than a restaurant that serves such amazing combinations of sandwiches. The food is excellent, presented well and the menu gives you so many side dishes that you can enjoy something new every time you go.

On the other hand, how many more places in Wicker Park have to hire the dirtiest and most incompetent wait staff to serve their food? The guy we had needed to pull his pants up every time he came to our table. Yes, he may be able to model for Abercrombie on the side, but he looked dirty and was lousy at his job. Your bus boys should be your waitstuff because they work!!!!

I could be a regular here
By BeeJay from East Village/Wicker Park, November 16, 2008

New to the neighborhood and heard good things about Jerry's. Went on a Saturday around 5 and was already pretty busy but got seated for two right away. Menu is FULL of choices so I could see myself coming back often to try out different sandwich options. Chicken salad on pretzel bread and chili was de-lish! Good selection of sides and restaurant had cozy atmosphere with nice music selection. Hostess was warm and friendly and waiter was very attentive. Will definitely be back and recommend to friends!

Delicious food, HORRIBLE service
By -------- from Logan Square, August 3, 2008

I've eaten here three times. Each time, the food has been delicious. Each time, the aloofness and rudeness of the waiters has rivaled that of Ed Debevic's. Last time I went, we ordered at 2:45pm and didn't get our food till 4pm. Between the time that we ordered and got our food, our server did not check in on us. He also failed to bring part of our order (some sides). When we asked him about it (we had to wave our arms wildly to get his attention), he said his manager told him not to bring us that part of our order - but he clearly thought that (1) it was ok to not explain that to us and (2) it was ok to tell us the sides came w/ the meal, then not bring them. He was completely unapologetic about the wait and the messed up order. So was the manager. I will never eat there again.

Tried again

I recently went back to give this place another shot and shouldn't have bothered. Food is still mediocre for the price and the service pretencious. When will Chicagoans stop encouraging this type of poor behavior by not spending their money for lousy service??

If you have time...
By SandyD from Wicker Park, June 15, 2008

...it is not a bad spot to grab lunch. We live a few blocks away and enjoy the convenient location, interesting beer selection, and innovative sandwiches (as well as the ability to concoct your own). Have probably been there 5-6 times now, and have had well-intentioned, but exceptionally slow service every darn time. My husband took some business associates there for a little "neighborhood ambiance" last week and their orders were profoundly messed up (which admittedly we have not encountered on our weekend outings). Hard to tell if the servers are overworked/have too many tables or are just slow as molasses in February by their nature. Hope they get the jist of the comments and make some changes.

I kept wanting to like it.
By Drew from Bucktown, April 27, 2008

Overall rating:

We've been to Jerry's several times. We really wanted to like it, given what appears to be great menu. The sandwiches are ok, even though I find that you often have to make special requests, like leaving off an ingredient or two (e.g. they pile on so many condiments and sauces, the sandwich often ends up soggy). The staff isn't exactly rude, but they don't seem overly excited to have customers. I'll probably go back, but only if someone else really wants to go, and only during off-hours.
