Jim Andrews, the owner of this Western Avenue hot dog stand, isn't your average hot dog slinger. Andrews launched The Rescue Foundation, a nonprofit that helps formerly incarcerated people by providing work and the opportunity to learn about business ownership, in 2003. Felony Franks is an extension of the foundation's mission, employing people who have served time. The aim is not only to provide jobs, but also to offer employees a chance for profit sharing. Look for Red Hot Chicago franks dressed up with clever names like Misdemeanor Wiener and, of course, Felony Frank, as well as an assortment of deep-fried goodies such as mozzarella sticks, onion rings, fries and pizza puffs. It's strictly a walk-up spot for now, but a drive-through option is in the works. A few picnic tables are available if you'd like to sit outside. Andrews tells us he's already received 14 requests for franchising opportunities across the country, and hopes this location will be the model for those to come.
