Express Grill moved from its original Halsted Street address to make way for UIC expansion. In September 2005 (after a temporary stint at 1236 S. Union Ave.), it moved into this new larger location. This Chicago hot dog stand was started by Tomislav Lazerevski in the '50s, and he now runs it with his son Alex – they're related to James Stefanovic, who founded next-door neighbor Jim's Original. The Lazerevskis have their famous Polish custom-made by a local sausage house with their own blend of spices, and then they top 'em with a heaping pile of grilled onions and sport peppers. Another bestseller is a Maxwell Street classic, the bone-in pork chop sandwich, topped with mustard, onions and sport peppers. You'll find all walks of life waiting in line at this busy walk-up, and it's especially hopping after the bars close.
