This hot dog stand debuted in the Navy Pier food court in 1996 and has since expanded to three other locations throughout the city. Before opening, founders George and Manolis Alpogianis toured the U.S. to find regional varieties of the classic hot dog. They returned with 13 dog recipes, from Dallas (chili, onions and shredded cheddar) to New York (sauerkraut and brown mustard) to Louisiana (barbecue sauce, grilled onions and tomato). The menu now features 17 city-themed dogs, plus a veggie dog, but the Chicago-style dog (mustard, relish, onions, sport peppers, tomatoes, pickle and celery salt) still reigns supreme with traditionalists.
