Nice looking place...massive yet warm and cozy. Menu had some interesting stuff, tried the Welsh Rarebit appetizer, delicious, I'd recommend. Great selection of beers, priced spot on, not really a wine nor whiskey drinker, but vast selection.

Entrees overpriced at least a bit, affirmed by not-so-impressive proportions. My friend's Shepherd's Pie didn't look too yummy (no veggies or sauce, basically beef/potatoes, looked burntish, and no salad or soup included for $18??!!); Fish-n-Chips orders quite wee for FIFTEEN dollars (4-5 peices of fish /an order of fries smaller than you'd get at McDonald's). My burger was delicious, but again, ridiculously skimpy fries, and @ $12.50 I shouldn't have to hunt down the server or go to the bar for condiments or salt-n-pepper on a slow night. Step it up at these prices, folks....You've got a LOT of competition in this neighborhood.

Nice place, but I see no particular reason to go; it's 'upscale' mostly in price and maybe ambience.

really hit the spot

I went to Mrs. Murphy's for the first time on Sunday night with my dad. We both loved it! It was a little quiet and perfect for us to have some quality "dad - daughter time". I was told that other nights were more lively. We were guided toward a couple of excellent beer choices by our host, Jeff, and also Mike, our server. Samples were offered to make the selection easier. This night, we were eating lite, so we declined the scrumptious looking appetizers and went right for the ribs and the tenderloin burger for me. Both were outstanding and arrived piping hot and beautifully presented. I love a good burger and this one will keep me coming back. My dad loved the ambiance and as we were enjoying our meal, we counted up all the future occasions we could come back with the family. It is really a lovely interior, welcoming and elegant and homey at the same time.
The servers were very knowledgeable about the menu and beers, and were able to make a couple of substitutions at the table without a lot of hullaballoo.
This is great elevated bar food. Prices are reasonable and this place fits the bill for casual to upscale. Very comfortable!
Parking on Lincoln was a snap on Sunday night. I say order in on Saturday night, eat out on Sunday!

Terrible experience
By Soccergirl from Lincoln Square, August 1, 2008

I went here for the first time ever this past week with three friends and while I loved the space and decor, overall it was a terrible experience. The service was beyond lousy. It was not a busy night but we ended up having to go up to the ba, after the initial service to get drinks and food. I tried the Guinness Soup and it was not very good at all. There was very little broth, A LOT of soggy bread and the cheese was tough and chewy.
In the four hours that we were there, a server came to the table four times, two of those times because we actually flagged him down. He was very pleasant when he was at the table but I expected not to have to keep going to the bar for drinks and he didn't seem to get the hint, at one point he was standing at the bar when we went up and didn't even offer to bring the drinks over to the table.
It was a very disapointing experience, definitely not worth the prices that they charge and not good value. We definitely won't be back.

wedding reception

We hosted our wedding reception on the second floor. The food was great. The service and ambiance were perfect. I highly recommend this place to host a party. Many guests remarked on how delicious the corned beef was and how beautiful the stained glass was. Thanks to Jamie for making it all run so smoothly.

Worst Bar Stools In The Chicago
By Ethan from Ethan, March 23, 2008

This is a cool place. The fireplace rocks. The food is so-so, fairly small menu and nothing that knocks your socks off. However, the bar stools are the most uncomfortable I have ever sat in at Chicago. I do not get it as it looks like they spared little expense on the rest of the place. Why go cheap at the bar?

A lovely Experience

The aroma of peat moss takes you upon entering the foyer. This grand pub welcomes you like across the pond hosts are hospitably known for. We went with family from out of town and sat in high top tables near the bar area. Everyone really enjoyed their lunches. I had smoked salmon on brown bread and my boyfriend had a breakfast skillet. The order of Irish bacon was way underdone. Oh, the waitress treated me like I never heard of beer before despite being in the liqour distributing industry but it was a good time overall. The service cart is a nice touch that carries your meal out from the kitchen. Lots of greatwine on the menu too at good value. Cheers! We'll be back.

Loved It

My partner and I have been wanting to try Mrs. Murphy's for awhile and we finally managed to get in last night. We were definitely not disappointed. The atmosphere is warm and cozy; the roaring fireplace added a nice touch on a cold February night. There is a nice selection of beer and wine. The cheese crock appetizer was awesome, and I love that they have the traditional Irish brown bread and sweet butter. The vegetable pot pie was more crust than veggies, but it was still quite good. The pork chop with cherry glaze was also fantastic. My only slight disappointment was the Guiness and Cheese soup, which was not so much a soup as it was a small casserole. It was tasty but really too much food if you've ordered an entree; it would be perfect paired with the mixed greens salad as your meal. We'll definitely be back, probably to try the brunch menu.

Very disappointing. The other reviews said that Mrs. Murphy's was very pretty, but to me it seemed cold and corporate. Our waiter did not know the menu of the wine list very well. The food sounded interesting on the menu, but was actually bland and the quality of the ingredients was just average. We got the bill and were commenting to each other that it seemed expensive for the quality, when we noticed 2 couples paying for the dinner with coupons. Apparently, many people find Mrs. Murphy's prices high for the quality.
