5th visit to Smoque since it opened. I live 6 blocks away. I called in my order at 6:30. I was given a 40 minute wait. I showed up 45 minutes later and was told I had to now wait for the cash register person to ring me up. She was busy. Eventually got home. My food was completely cold. I'm done. Honey 1 bbq and Fat Willy's are far better choices for BBQ. Gale Street Inn and L. Woods are better for ribs. No mas!

dined-in directly after the review on check please. crowed and noisy, but food was good. took food home several weeks later and it was still good. took food home again last week and was disappointed w/both food and service. called in p.u. for 6p.m. arrived at 5:45p.m. and was told i would have to wait 'til 6p.m. b/4 the order would be started! it was exactly 6p.m. when they began to pack - 2 lbs of brisket w/o sides! worse yet, the food was mediocre. the beef had little more than a smoked taste.
won't return until someone tells me these folks have returned to their original.

Went here on a Wednesday night and it was packed! After taking a bite of the brisket platter, I know exactly why! The bbq here is EXCELLENT! They run a tight ship when it gets crowded, but in some weird way it works. The prices are affordable and you get a good amount for the price. I definitely recommend it when you want to throw back some beers with a buddy (it's BYOB!) and grub on some BBQ.

I live far southeast in the city by the Museum of Science and Industry and there are no good BBQ places on the southside. So when I saw Smoque on the food network, I was anxious to try it.
We went on a Saturday around 1:30, there was no line and we were served fairly quickly. We got the brisket sandwich with the BBZ beans and I was very impressed. I will say though, right after we were seated they got extremely busy, the line was out the door. Friendly atmosphere, the people who were sitting next to us asked us if we had tried it before and we said we had seen it on TV and it was our first time, they said them too, they had just come in town from Phoenix and came straight there from the airport. We were both very please and I don't think the prices are too high, I think they're priced just right, especially considering inflation and the cost of meat these days. There staff is friendly and there were about 10 people behind the counter working very hard.
I like that one of the owners was out front getting aquainted with his customers and making sure that their needs were met, too many owners hide in the back, it's nice to see someone that's taking interest in where his money is coming from....
Only negative thing about this place is that it's too small, if business keeps going the way that it is they may have to relocate because there isn't any room for them to expand. My suggestion is to get your food to-go.

After 5 years of living in Chicago, I have at long last found a place that knows how to do ribs. I grew up in Memphis and gave up eating ribs here about 3.5 years ago, after tasting some pretty sorry excuses time and time again. (The bbq pork sandwiches of Chicago are a different story for another day) I still can't get over how on the mark Smoque got their ribs. Both the dry rub and the side sauce were terrific. I would have been convinced we had somehow been transported back to Memphis, if not for the restaurant being BYOB and freezing (sorry)...and the northern accents. Smoque is definitely off the beaten path, even more so than Fat Willy's, but is totally worth driving the few extra miles (even with today's gas prices). The fresh-cut fries, coleslaw, and pork sandwich are also dang good. Only thing is, I feel like a true moron for not having gone here sooner and for wasting my tastebuds elsewhere. You live and you learn.

Smoque delivered food to my home last night for a party of 20 people and they could not have been more helpful. Not only was the food DELICIOUS (I swear I'll never get ribs anywhere else ever again, and the brisket was to die for!) but they estimated quantities perfectly and brought everything over to my house on time. My guests were blown away, and so were we. Did I mention that the food was DELICIOUS???

I love this place! I live not very far away and it's my destination 3 days a week. Barry and Al up front are cordial hosts and Mike and Chris get all customers served with first class BBQ. I am wanting to tell you that the new hot links from Texas are beyond good. I have never actually been a fan of sausage from anywhere but after the guys at Smoque MADE me try some, I have to admit I am hooked. They told me they looked all over the country for the right hot links and finally choose this man from Texas who has had it in his family for a long long time. I forgot the company name but whatever they are doing down there, dont change a thing! The good hot links are a compliment to the tender beef brisket and wonderful sauces they have at Smoque and if you go, don't forget the mararoni and cheese. It's addictive.
