BETTER AND BETTR EVERY TIME I GO
By NINA from LINCOLNWOOD, August 31, 2009

Calo is one of if not my all time favorite restaurant. Now it is on top of my friends favortite places too. Everything we have ever ordered is deliicious from the Octopous to the Lobster Ravioli to the Seafood pasta dish my friend ordered the other night. She said 'everything is great here!' The service could not have been better....terrific wait staff. We were celebrating my birthday so I was treated like royalty but whether your birthday or a weeknight dinner you are always treated that way at Clao's. Victor the owner is extrememly hardworking yet makes time to greet his patrons and make sure they are taken care of. Calo is a gem...love it! Love the food! Love the service! Love the decor! Love the cute owner who always makes sure everything runs smoothly. Calo is the best kept secret in town. Way to go Calo!!

Delicious pizza!

My husband and I moved into our home very late one night and with empty stomaches. We ordered pizza from Calo and I have to admit, we loved it so much we haven't tried much else! The buffalo calamari is a nice spicy touch, and the ROTOLO DI MOZZARELLA is only $5 and tasty tasty. Back to the pizza, we've always had delivery and it's fast. I don't know what kind of cheese they use, but I don't order pizza from anywhere else now. Oh, and if you're a garlic lover, they load the stuff on as a topping!

Newcomers to Neighborhood
By Kristixx from Flint, Michigan, April 16, 2008

Overall rating:

My daughter, son-in-law, husband and I were hungry after a day of moving them into the neighborhood, so we took off on foot to find a restaurant. We were delighted to find this lovely place. Everything was excellent, and the manager invited us to come again. We certainly will.

Warm staff

My girlfriends & I left our little ones with the men & headed out for the evening. We were surprised to find Calo to be a swanky -- PACKED place. Always seemed like just a family run pasta joint from the outside -- we were so pleasantly suprised! Our waiter was warm & very attentive -- a real old school manner about him. I had the scallops in a light cream sauce that was so enveloping I was tempted to finish the cavernous plate. By far, my favorite was the dessert. I can't remember the name, but a ball of delicious ice cream wrapped in cocoa & raspberry sauce -- YUM! We all agreed that we'd definatley come back with our husbands. Only complaint -- the price. Most entrees were $16-20 and I'd probably drop them down more into $12-16 range.

Hit and Miss
By chgoboy69 from Andersonville, January 11, 2008

I've been going to Calo for the past 10 years, having lived in Andersonville the past 7. I remember the old Calo, basically a family run red-sauce Italian restaurant. It was unpretentious, the staff was like family, and it was a comfortable place to go. We lived through the renovations, which occured while the restaurant continued operation. Being loyal customers, we kept going, and hoped the changes wouldn't affect the things that made Calo a great place to be. Some changes were good, some not so good. It has become somewhat pretentious, the old staff has been replaced by some very incompetent servers who frequently screw up orders. I remember Hildy, who was there from the old days, and got everything right, and remembered your name. The manager tries to keep it together, but I think he ends up apologizing or making excuses for the staff a lot more than he would like. Oh, the menu is about the same, but the prices have gone up and the quality has gone down. I never had to send things back before, but do so now, especially the rib special which sometimes comes out overcooked and dry. But the lasagna is still the best in the city. So, I'll keep coming back, but I wish Calo management would take note of what doesn't work. But since the place is consistently full, I guess they don't feel that they need to. That's unfortunate.

Delicious!
By Dee25 from Ravenswood, January 1, 2008

Me and my roommate needed to find a place that was open on New Year's Day and happened to find this place online, it had good reviews so we decided to check it out...definitely good move. Place had a nice cozy atmosphere and the staff was extremely efficient and quick. We decided to have the fillet that was cooked perfectly to order and was absolutely succulent and delicious. Will definitely come to this conveniently located place.

Food was not very good - Delivery
By Razldazlrr from Rogers Park, December 19, 2007

OK - This was for delivery - I have never been to the restaurant - so maybe a great martini would make it 2 stars. I thought the food was pretty bad. The ribs were dry, cold and nothing to shout about. We only ate 1/2 and the rest were tossed. Chicken Marsala - awful - chicken breasts in some broth, no flavor. Pizza - it was ok - again - nothing great.
I am used to good food and eat out quite often. I used to order delivery a lot until I moved far north - I can't find any great restaurants with delivery up here!
And the guy that delivered it gave us attitude because he had to come up the stairs. Hey! that's why I'm paying a delivery fee and tipping you - to bring it to my door!!

I definitely won't order delivery from here again.

Calos is my home away...
By Michael from Chicago, IL, August 28, 2007

Calos is my home away from home, when it comes to cooking. My girlfreind and I went last Wednesday, waited about 15 minutes for our table and as always it was well worth it.Started out with grilled octopus, that was marinated and grilled just perfectly, excellent flavor. We shared entrees of Chicken Francese and Gnocchi Ricotta, both of which were out of this world! The Tiramisu we had is probably the best we have ever had.Service at Calos is very good and everybody there makes us feel like we our family.Highly recomend!

We came to Calo restaurant...
By CLARKNY from Chicago, IL, July 29, 2007

Overall rating:

We came to Calo restaurant last night for a Birthday dinner. We arrived at 9:00... Everything was great until 9:45, when the lights were turned on. We complained and they were turned down for 10 minutes. Then the lights came back on and someone started vacuming in the next room. We left at 10:15. If this is your polocy... They spoiled our evening... I noticed leaving that the lights were low in the bar and people were just being served... I find this quality of serves very poor and I would not recommend this restaurant.
