Alhambra Palace Restaurant

Neighborhood: West Loop
1240 W. Randolph St.

Chicago, IL 60607

This palatial, 1,000-seat West Loop restaurant-lounge is the most splashy spot we've seen ummm, well maybe ever. It offers multiple dining and drinking options: an upscale dining room, a two-story resto-lounge fitted with a stage for live entertainment, a mezzanine with tables and skyboxes, private dining for 400 and a garden-like outdoor cafe. The name comes from the Alhambra Palace in Spain; the space is decked with art, artifacts and furniture imported from Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Syria, Lebanon and Egypt (think marble archways and columns, ornate tiles and plenty of gurgling fountains). Currently, the full Moroccan menu is in flux, but eventually look for choices like braised lamb shank and chicken Marrakech (seasoned chicken breast with fresh pomegranate and walnut sauce). The lounge offers selections like tabbouleh, baba ghanoush and falafel, plus a variety of kabobs.

"Wow, the service sucks..."

sali18 from oak park - May 31, 2008

Seriously. When we got the check, we figured out why. They add the gratuity for you at 20% in the check...no wonder the waitresses were so flippant...
