I live a few feet away from Third World Cafe and sometimes have a hard time making myself go. While I really like the place, the management is horrible (even though the service has gotten better since last year). As of late, however, there is NO internet on weekends, $5 minimum purchase for internet access during the week, it closes at 7:30pm on weekdays and 4:00pm on sundays. Im sorry, but for a cafe that is located in a college town those are some horrible characteristics. I can imagine seeing this place full of people throughout the day, just not any time soon. If anything, I think I've seen less people there lately....

Good food, all made fresh! Friendly folks work there. They've changed management and staff in the last year. Decent atmosphere but could use more "personality."

Decent food/drinks. Nice atmosphere. Good "alternative" scene. One problem..the service behind the counter..from the cashiers to the kitchen staff.
For an independentely owned operation...poor service. Would go to Starbucks instead..

I truly enjoy the break in action, in this quaint, independent coffee house. It has been the perfect addition to the Hyde Park neighborhood. I have enjoyed just about all the pasties they have and the new salads are fabulous. Its a must have if you are in the mood for something fresh.

I live right down the street from the Third World Café, and was at first happy to have a new, independent coffee shop where I could hang out and study. Unfortunately, the management doesn't seem to care so much about pleasing patrons or improving the facilities or the food. This week was the final draw, when I was told that my $2 cup of coffee was not sufficiently expensive for me to be allowed to use their "free" wireless internet. I think that the dim, flickering neon light in the bathroom must have been broken for over a month now! (Note to management: the nightlight that was plugged in near the sink (no joke) just doesn't cut it). And why never any paper towels?

Despite great efforts, I've never been able to get a smile out of either of the two women behind the counter, who prefer to scowl at me after I have stood behind the counter for a few minutes, hoping that one of them would acknowledge my presence and take a short break from chatting away in the back room. You are better-off spending your $$'s at Cobb, Hallowed Grounds, Medici, or, even (as much as I hate to support the big, bad chains) Starbucks or Barns and Noble down the street. I don't expect the Third World Café to last much longer, and I look forward to a replacement where the staff is friendly, the chairs comfortable, and the bathrooms lighted!
