The oldest coffee house in Evanston, Cafe Express opened in 1981 and still helps commuters get their morning jolt before heading to the Purple Line stop across the street. The espresso machine gets a workout not only brewing up drinks, but also steaming eggs, served scrambled with bacon or sausage until 11 a.m. If you miss breakfast entirely, there's a variety of pastries and fresh made-to-order sandwiches as well.
