Honestly, you don't have to be hungry to enjoy this place! I'm writing a review because I was disappointed to see negative comments about the service. A short wait period between courses is expected everywhere but America (the very creators of the term "fast food") where diners want to get in and out quickly and the restaurant owners want you to go quickly, too! Anyone who complained about the service was not attended to by Marcus. You'll want to prolong your dining experience! My advice is go back, ask for Marcus. You will feel like Lord and Lady of the Manor! Try the goulash or the Kassler Ribs. The bartenders are top notch and even the bus-persons are attentive. Our experiences there have always ended with walking to the kitchen counter window to give a happy thumbs up to the cook! You would never shop hungry, so don't go out to dinner when you are so famished and short tempered, you have already created a bad environment for yourself. Give it another go, you can't go wrong!

We had a reservation for Saturday night, party of 5, and were seated right away. The service was prompt and attentive. They let us sample beers before buying liter glasses - and they had some fantastic ones on tap. We ordered (2) $4.95 pretzels for the table - well worth it as they were the best any of us had ever had. The Rouladen was excellent - 3 of us got it...German comfort food - nothing fancy just damn good. If you're looking for authentic food, great beers, and a relaxed environment - this is the place.

Laschet's is a cute restaurant that is very cozy on a cold night. However, the service is sadly incompetent. We found the staff to be rude and confrontational. We have been four times and find the food extremely inconsistent. Given the prices, it's simply not worth the trip.

This place is close to our house but we hadn't visited in years. The ambiance hasn't changed much, very old school German, but this is one of its charms. Nice cross section of the neighborhood, older couple, young family with baby, group of women, etc. The service was very attentive and accomodating. The food was also very good. The soup tasted like it was homemade and all of our entrees were delicious and generously portioned. The complimentary liqueur after our meal was a nice finishing touch. We'll be back as the weather gets colder!

We dined at Laschet's yesterday to celebrate Oktoberfest. We arrived only to be told we would not be seated for at least an hour after our reservation. No biggie, we would enjoy a beer at the bar. The bar area itself is great- lots of German memorabilia, big mugs, cozy, and a fine selection of brews. We were finally seated and waited about 20 min. for someone to stop by, which ended up being the hostess. She took our appetizer order- a selection of sausages (that resembled the Oscar Mayer meats in the school's cafeteria) and Ritz crackers. Finally, our waiter shows up and takes our order- Wiener Schnitzel with soup, and the Pig Roast with a salad. Another 20 min. passes before the salad arrives and another 5 min. after the soup arrives (both were good but not remarkable). Cue to another 20 min. and we finally receive our entrees. The entree's were fair, and not a stand out to some of the other German restaurants in town. The worst part was the service. Our waiter maybe stopped by 3 times and spent the majority of his time drinking a beer and chatting up the hostess. He had at most 3-5 tables- its pretty hard to mess that up. We would have considered coming back just to enjoy the bar, but looking back we'll head to Resi's Beirstube across the street or Mirabell for better food and way better service.

As a girl that has grown up in the German community and throughout the german clubs in Chicago, I know my German cuisine. Laschets gives value, quantity and quality with their food. Everything is made from scratch. You won't find better Sauerbraten in the city. In fact, all of the really good german restaurants have either closed down or changed chefs. Laschets is small and the ambiance is that of a small bar and restaurant, but you aren't there to look around. You are there to eat and drink. So far, everything that I have ordered off of the menu is fantastic. The place is small so sometimes you may wait a little longer for your meal, but the beer is great and the food will not disappoint. If you are looking for good German food in Chicago, this is a must try.

Report This ReviewSimply the best German bar in the city. Friendly staff and friendlier customers. Lots of regulars and if you go you'll know why.
Report This ReviewIf you like German food, this place out classes them all. Great food, Great beer, Great service. Just don't expect Everest like atmosphere, but then again the prices aren't like Everest either.
Report This ReviewMy husband brought me here after a friend told him about it, we loved it. If you miss the Golden Ox, you will like Laschet's.
