Tatsu
- Neighborhood: Little Italy/University Village
- 1062 W. Taylor St.
- Chicago, IL 60607
- 312-733-8933
- Price range: $$ ($9-$15)
One of the first spots to stake claim along Taylor Avenue amid Little Italy/University Village's ongoing reinvention, Tatsu continues to pride itself on the same thing it did when it first opened: affordable maki (rolls start at $3.50) in a contemporary, date-ready setting. But don't let the clubby dance tracks and dimly lit dining room throw you off. Tatsu is serious--and efficient--about food. Options range from pan-Asian entrees and soups to nigiri and a choice of more than 35 maki whipped up quickly at the sushi bar. Should you need to wet your whistle (what's a date without drinks, right?), Tatsu offers a fairly extensive wine and sake list. Going non-alcoholic? We suggest a classic: Thai iced tea.
