Sunda: User Reviews
went here on a monday and didn't have to wait but still couldn't sit at an actual table. we had two appetizers that were decent but kind of greasy. the kobe beef/crispy rice thing had amazing reviews from our friends but i personally didn't think it was that great. it tasted like a mushy mcdonald's burger on rice. we also ordered sushi that was hard to eat, not flavorful, and extremely small. the drinks were ok. our total bill was $120 for two of us which was way too much for what we got. i do have to say that our waitor was extremely nice. we were out for my birthday and he gave me a birthday card that was signed by the waitstaff. which i'm sure they have a bunch just sitting around but i still appreciated the gesture. but overall this place is overpriced and if it wasn't for billy dec and all of his celebrity friends this place would probably not have lasted as long as it has...

the wait staff was so incredibly rude to our party they literally asked us to leave. We joined a group of friends at their table who had just spent $400. The waitress told us she would not serve us and told us to leave the restaurant! She was the rudest most arrogant person I have ever met. It was so bad we thought we were on a hidden camera show. There are plenty of other places to spend your money, restaurants whose management and owners have families to feed and care about their customers. Sunda's employees have an attitude that they are better than you-if that's the kind of treatment you like, then by all means try it out!

Was very much looking forward to trying Sunda; even sat outside to enjoy the last days of summer. Two of us had an inkling of things to come with the amount of wine served in our glasses; they must have measured the four ounces exactly. We tried three appetizers, and with our two glasses of ($10 per) wine each, our bill was 78.00. I know this is downtown, but come on. For what we received, just not worth the prices charged. One of the three items was very good; the beef lollipops had decent flavor, but were fatty. I'd try somewhere else for Asian cuisine.

The food is average but it's difficult to get reservations and i think it's just because it's new because it's not good. Wine list is average at best. i booked a table in the sushi bar but was seated at the sushi bar, on a date,,, how embarrassing. i won't be back

Wow. As soon as I bit into my crispy rice with Kobe beef I said "I'm gonna Yelp about this!". I don't remember last tasting something so incredible. We ordered seconds. Don't leave without trying that! Also, the toast and jam, rock shrimp appetizer (spicy, yum), and also the duck boas (this is the real thing; out with the wow bao). There's a jalapeno hamachi sashimi plate that was incredible too. I suggest you talk to your waiters and ask away. That's how we end up picking the perfect menu items every time. I'll be back again and again and again.

Went to Sunda on Friday night after leaving a cocktail party. W had no reservation, and were told it would be an hour-wait, which is not bad for a Friday. We sat at the bar for more than an hour, but the drinks were good and not too expensive (about $10 each, almost regardless of what you order). Was tough, but not impossible to get a bartender's attention. Trouble is, the bar isn't realy set up to accomdate that many people waiting for a table, so you have to work to be seen by a bartender. So, after waiting more than an hour (and two rounds of cocktails), we were seated at the Sushi bar -- which, again, is okay, considering we didn't have a reso. But our waiter was way overworked, and didn't really give us much attention. It took nearly an hour to get our entrees. The sushi chef gave us each a piece of sashimi, which was delicious. My entree, the Red Snapper, was outstanding, but my boyfriend's, the Kobe steak, was surprisngly bad. Slightly overcooked, a bit tough, and served at room-temperature -- as if it had sat under the warmer for ten minutes. It is the most expensive item on the menu, and its hard to explain why it was so bad -- the Kobe beef at Yoshi's is many times better. The place is all about the ambience, and it certainly attracts a great-looking crowd. But until it works out some management issues, I can't recommend it to friends or to you.

This was my second time at Sunda and seeing as it was still semi-new the first, I figured I would give them one more shot. However, the second time around was much worse. The food was poor to say the least and my table of six sent back sushi that was not fresh as well as barely nibbled on each plate that was brought out. Our wine glasses were left empty many times and our waitor was no where in sight to refill throughout dinner. (we had to have a server locate our wine so we could pour ourselves.) It took over 30 minutes to get our initial round of drinks and when it was time to pay the bill, our waitor had disappeared and we eventually had to ask a manager for the check. The restaurant was extremely loud - since the sound bounces off the walls at Sunda, the least they could do is skip the loud music. Even at a round table, it was extremely hard to hear and had to repeat conversations over and over. And the topper was when they misplaced a credit card of ours and come to find today, had double charged one of our guests. This place is not worth a visit.

An overrated "in" spot that caters to the 20 to 30-something wannabes. The noise level is on pitch with your average rock concert. The pert, but inept hostess, is rude and for someone who makes minimum wage, it's remarkable that she even has this job. Moreover, the slick 30-something Manager didn't even realize it was Friday and NOT Saturday night.
Food was mediocre to poor and servers sport an attitude that they're doing you a favor by bringing your order.
Valet parking -- at $12.00 a pop -- is a joke considering this is barely a one star venue.
Skip it and go to your fav neighborhood Asian or, better yet, just order in!

Trendy with great people watching. The food is delicious but we had to ask the waiter to put together our order. We like doing that and it worked out well because the menu was so varied. Our waiter also suggested some really good Sake with the meal - we had a whole bottle of it for four people.
