My husband and I tried this place out on Friday night. The outside of the restaurant certainly doesn't do it justice! We walked in and were so surprised by how roomy & classy the interior of the restaurant was. We loved the decor and ambiance! We sat at one of the chef's tables; I ordered the scallops and he ordered the sirloin steak. Both entrees come with the BEST miso I've ever had, salad, & awesome fried rice! The rice was so good! Our chef was pleasant and entertaining, but not over-the-top cheesy and attention commanding. Our server was attentive. We have been to both Benihana and Tsukasa of Tokyo (Vernon Hills) many times. Tsukasa is great, but we actually enjoyed Sumo much more! We will be returning soon, and telling all of our friends about it! I am excited to try the sushi as well. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for something different and don't want to succumb to the Schaumburg chains! Good job Sumo!!

Best Sushi & Sashimi in Palatine & Best Value

Sumo is a great addition to Palatine, which desperately needed a high-quality sushi restaurant that doesn't charge outrageous prices. "Mr. Sumo" is a wonderful host, and the sushi and sashimi that he and his staff create are fresh, tasty, and presented beautifully. The prices are reasonable for the quality - especially if you go at lunchtime and order one of the lunch specials. I recommend the sashimi platter.

Mr. Sumo handled the few service issues very well. First, I ordered my usual sashimi platter for lunch, and when it came out it looked like less food than I was used to. Mr. Sumo explained that the pieces were larger and simply placed on a smaller plate. Still, he brought me six more pieces so that I would be satisfied - no extra charge. Later, the server forgot one of my special orders for a piece of anago, and when I mentioned it, Mr. Sumo brought me the two most amazing pieces of anago I've ever had - on the house, no charge. So if there are a few service issues to work out, at least Mr. Sumo knows how to make up for them, when necessary.
