not good

Our problems w/ Joy Yee were:
1) atmosphere was cafeteria like and cold. The cafeteria style surprised me, but not a big deal. The cold was also a surprise, and impacted the quality of the food (got cold a few minutes after arriving) and our enjoyment of the dinner.
2) the biggest problem was that we ordered 2 appetizers and 3 main courses and they all came at the same time. This is unacceptable at any sit-down restaurant, but particularly since we couldn't use the part of the table my son could reach (destructive little man). Our appetizers and one main dish came (about 2 minutes after ordering) and we asked that the main dish be brought back later. It came about 1 1/2 minutes later by a different waitress, WITH the other 2 main dishes. So the whole meal was spent juggling 5 cold dishes, our plates, drinks, etc. on a small table.
3) to top it off, when my mother-in-law took the check, our young male waiter asked why we were making the "old lady" pay. not exactly polite.

Hmm....Serivice in China Town
By Bigmoney from South Loop, August 11, 2008

I love Joy Yee Noodle. I think this is one of those great places in which the company you are with is all that matters. I have always had good experiences here. So its China Town and I don't speak any of the language. Usually my waiter comes late or far inbetween. Hey maybe that's how it is in the Chinese culture. I've pretty much experienced that in any China Town restaurant period. The food however is great and consistant. Frozen drinks are one of the best in the ciity. My waiter even cracked a joke today which was unusual for them. Also it was a Monday night and the place was packed. Hmm They must be doing something right.

I have been told by several friends that Joy Yee is no longer as good as it used to be but since I have never been and they moved to a new location in Chinatown, my friend and I decided to give it a try. A terrible mistake. I had one of the lunch specials, Schezwan Pork with string beans. The sauce was spicy and the string beans were cooked right (not too hard, not too soft). However, the pork was just way too fatty. The same goes for my friend's Korean soup noodles. Its beef had more fat than meat. I was really disappointed because there are so many better restaurants in Chinatown but yet I chose Joy Yee. Even Panda Express serves much better meats than them. Joy Yee needs to trim down their menu selection (and fat of the meats)and really focus on providing some quality food.

The food was average. Menu way too big and nothing looked good. Soup was brought out at the same time as one of our meals. Worse off was the waitress who was mean and had a bad attitude. She hovered over me when I was trying to write a tip. A poor experience by Chinatown standards. Which isn't saying much.

its 91 degrees in chicago today, I stopped at Joy yees for a mango bubble tea.
I don't know if it was the heat or what, but that was one of the greatest, most delicious, fruit laden, tapioca bursting things i've ever had in my life.

One of those places that tries to be everything to everyone, but excels in little. The drinks are good, but the food is non-authentic and cater to the bland American taste. The place literally seats about 35 poeple so expect a line. Good for people watching, but I don't like waiting. It's very "gwai lo" and more like a hangout for some 18 yrs old yuppie wantabee.

We had a group of 19 people. The place was packed. But a waitress came out side and ask "How many?" "19" She replied "give me five minutes." We all thought that's impossible, because the place was packed. But some how they pulled it off. It was a bit crowdeed, but a good experience. The fruit drinks are worth the trip alone. They have fresh fruit right there, I highly reccomend the fuit drinks. The food was good, but not the best I've had, although other people loved what they had. Give it a try.
