Table Fifty-Two: User Reviews
My family and I came here for my sister's birthday but came out disappointed and hungry! Our server was unfriendly and a bit arrogant. He showed no concern when I asked to replace my dish. I was told that I had to pay for my first dish and also had to pay for my second dish. Service was pretentious and the ambiance uninviting. The food is overpriced and the portions are very, very small. I ordered the risotto appetizer but asked for the dinner size but was amazed at how small the dinner size was. I paid double the appetizer prize! The food was not bad but the server's attitude and arrogance, and the overpriced menu magnified our bad experience. I left the place feeling robbed, dissatisfied and very hungry!

I should have read the reviews before I went because I was sorely disappointed. The food was seasoned really well. I enjoyed the flavors, but the prices are extremely expensive. I was so disappointed. For a party of three we spent $241 including the tip. We too felt like we were being ushered out of the restaurant when we had completed our meal. I will not go back. The flavors were wonderful, but not worth the prices.

I was at Table 52 recently with a party of 6. We were so rushed to get out of there for the next seating, it was impossible to enjoy our overpriced food. We were never told when making reservations (four months in advance of a special occassion) that there were "seatings". And it's not like we were sitting there nursing a cup of coffee -- our bill was over $520 (including the 20% tip that they added). I will NOT go back and would NOT reccommend it to anyone.

Wonderful food, Service was excellent, waiter very knowledgeable. Can not say enough about the food, was out of this world. Servers kept glasses filled and table clean at all times. Will definitely be going back, we're going to try the Sunday supper.

I normally recoil from any 90 day advance reservation, but this one is worth it. No attitude, great food, reasonably priced. From the biscuits through the Hummingbird cake, everything was great.

Our party of four had ample time to build up expectations as we watched the seasons change from spring to summer during our two-months-plus wait time from making a reservation to a late June dining date. What a disappointment! It was truly a triumph of style over substance. An elegant location and decore belied the undistinguished dishes. I won't even bother detailing the amateurish service. The completmentary biscuits were excellent but everything after that from appetizers to desserts were either ordinary and/or slightly over-cooked. At about $50 per person for three courses, Table 52 was a big let-down.

I took my wife to Table Fifty-Two for her birthday and we were both very pleased. The ambiance, service, and food were all top notch. We got the fried green tomotoes for an appetizer and they were by far the best we've ever had. My wife got the filet of beef and I got the berkshire pork chop. Both were cooked perfectly, presented beautifully, and tasted outstanding. For dessert we got the 12 layer chocolate cake which was excellent as well. Definitely a little on the pricy side, but for a special occasion, I can't imagine many better places in the city.

Table 52 satisfied my craving for some good ole low country food. The shrimp and grits were excellent with a gentle surprise of cayenne. Mike, our waiter was very kind and accommodating to our last minute guest. Table decor was most inviting and inspiring. Well done.

Hearing mostly good things about this restaurant, I hoped to give a better report than this.
The opening biscuit was as reported, outstanding. The smoked duck pizza was also a very good choice. Both the the pistachio crusted chicken and the catfish were a yawn. The celebrated mac and cheese was prettier to look at than delightful to eat. The famous Hummingbird cake reminded me of a decent carrot/pineapple cake with too much buttercream, in other words unremarkable.
The arrogance of the pricing is what I will remember the most. This place is way over-priced.
My recommendation to the chef is to bake biscuits exclusively.

First, thanks to all who complained about the hosts, because by the time we got there they had cleaned up their act and were professional and hospitable. We had great appetizers, followed by a cold melon soup which wasn't so great but our waiter saw we weren't excited and immediately asked and then offerd to remove the order from our bill. Our entrees were outstanding (I had pork chops; she had the fish special). Dessert was great. Service was excellent (not too attentive, but not aloof). We dine out a lot and at a variety of restaurants throughout town, and we were very impressed and look forward to returning.
