Just not the same anymore.

First the Stanley's in Lincoln Park abandons the Monday night buffet that made it a great place to catch the Monday night football games. Now the Stanley's on Racine cuts back on the buffet and changes the dessert to some mediocre concoction. They always had this fabulous banana pudding (you know, the one with the Nilla wafers and whipped cream) and for some odd reason decided to go with a chocolate pudding that has sliced bananas in it. Just my opinion, but this might have been a cost issue. Whipping up some cafeteria style choc. pudding might be cheaper and easier than the former. But I will say that outside of that, the place is still a decent bar with typical bar food. It just lost its big draw for Monday nights.

Oh Stanley’s! Well, I came and you gave without takin'

I’ve been to this Stanley’s a fair amount of times so I know this review is accurate. In short: Stanley’s has never let me down – whatever time of day! Weekend days are great for brunch; it’s affordable, tasty, and I’ve never waited longer than 20 minutes. Weekday nights are great for random fun! My boyfriend and I had a blast playing HORSE (they have a basketball hoop).

I think they have a DJ (outside) on most Friday’s. One such night, a group of friends and I summoned our inner “flirty girl” on the stripper pole (don’t be shy, it’s not that type of place). Oh, and the patio is dog friendly.

Now don’t get me wrong this is not the place to meet new people – go to the other Stanley’s for that – bring your friends here to unwind on their great patio!

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE

I had family in town (15 of us). We called several places to determine where we could all go for a late dinner. I spoke to someone at Stanley's that told me that they could seat 15 of us in the restaurant; I told him that would work since we would be coming there with the intention of having a late dinner. I made the reservation and said we'd be there in ABOUT 30 min. We arrived at Stanley's 40 min. later and we were told that they closed the kitchen. I asked them why they would book a party of 15 coming in to eat food, if there was a 10 minute window open to order. We were told by the person who took our reservation, that he told the manager prior to us getting there that we had made a reservation, and the manager said to close the kitchen anyway. They were unapologetic, unwilling to honor their reservation, and even borderline rude. I will NEVER go there again, and will be sure to tell anyone and everyone I know to never go there... EVER.

i saw a review of the place in the red eye and me and my boyfriend decided to check it out. the buffet was pretty good. it took awhile to get fresh food. the service was a bit unorganized! the place looked really interesting to look around at. but they did serve you the drinks pretty fast! i would go there again but only if i wasn't starving.

Old food...

Service - 3 stars - Brunch can be hit or miss. Not really paying for serivce, but they could bring drinks faster.
Ambiance - 3 stars - I get the concept, but seems really forced into this space. This place use to be a slow and quiet italian restaurant with a wierd bar. It's an improvement, but belongs in a different setting...
Food - 1 star - We ate here for brunch and were disgusted on the shoveling in old mac/cheese into new mac/cheese. It looked as if it was sitting in a crusty pot in the oven for hours.
Music/TV - 2 stars - They had a few HD TV's but the music was very random and not fitting for the theme.

This place is meant to be on a lake community or in a college town. I know UIC is across the freeway, but this place just doesn't feel right in the city...

Open mic Rocks!!!
By jeffro from logan, March 28, 2008

I went to the open mic at Stanley's on Racine which is held every wednesday.
There was a great atmosphere. The performers where very entertaining. They offered drink specials and and even incentives for the performers to sign up. I've been to many open mics throughout the city and this one is by far my fave! Kudos!

Service needs work

A few of us were there for lunch and the service was sooo rude! They were practically cleaning the table and floor underneath our feet before we even left the table - and it was lunchtime. The food is delish, but the staff needs some work.

Stanley's on Racine
By spaceship from upnorth, February 19, 2008

Overall rating:

Stanley's on Racine is one of my favorite restaurants in the West Loop. For one thing, there is always parking, (which is nice because it is a bit far from downtown). Also, the food there is always great, and there is always a comfortable and friendly environment. Me and my family love it there, and they even have kareoke on Friday nights. We will no doubt keep coming back, and I highly recommend it to anyone else.

Horrible Experience
By kppk from loop, February 2, 2008

I am HUGE fan of the original Stanley's. Therefore, I was elated to find there was another location that's closer to my home. I took a friend of mine who is 8 months pregnant. I had talked about how good the food is, especially the apple butter and muffins. We were excited!

Upon our arrival, we noticed that it was cold in the restaurant, so immediately we are uncomfortable, yet we are anxious for the food. The muffins come out and we were told that the apple butter was coming shortly. After a few minutes, the waitress came back and didn't mention that they were OUT of apple butter until I asked. I was immediately disappointed.

We ordered the famous fried chicken with a side of macaroni and cheese. The macaroni tasted fine. The chicken came out and it looked horrible. I gave it the benefit of the doubt and it tasted as horrible as it looked. It smelled like it was cooked in old oil. The color of the chicken was beyond golden and it had no taste. I couldn't even eat more than one piece. We complained to manager and he was polite enough to apologize and offered us something else. We were totally disgusted and just wanted to leave this cold and tasteless place. I will never return to the racine location ever. I am still disgusted.
