Fornetto and Mei's Kitchen
- Neighborhood: South Loop
- 1108 S. Michigan Ave.
- Chicago, IL 60605
- 312-294-2488
- Price range: $$ ($9-$15)
This South Loop sibling to the Whitehall Hotel's Fornetto Mei has the same menu mix of Asian and Italian, but they've added American fare to the lineup. Fornetto is set-up food court-style with a variety of stations like rotisserie, pasta, panini, Asian and wood-fired thin-crust pizza. Staffers give you a "credit" card; move from station to station, pay at the end, and staffers will bring the food to your table. The decor is as global as the menu; each station is themed to match the cuisine. There is a showy floor-to-ceiling walk-in wine tower; grab a glass at the 40-foot wine bar or take a bottle to go. Seasonal outdoor seating is popular; the sidewalk cafe looks across Michigan Avenue onto Grant Park.
