What an outstanding secret! I lived in the Lakeview area for years and had never heard of Erwin. This restaurant's menu, although not extensive, was complete. The service was perfectly timed as my friend and I were there for a relaxing, catch-up dinner with conversation and the waitress provided just that for us. The wine list was reasonable with nice choices from under $30 and up. The appetizer of gorgonzola stuffed dates wrapped in bacon and then grilled plated on a balsamic reduction was a perfect palate pleaser! A great balance of flavors! I can't say enough about the pork chop...done to perfection served over gratin potatoes. Then the dessert! Seasonal fruit crisp which was made in-house. The chef obviously takes great pride in what he does! The waitstaff made us feel comfortable, even though we were the last to leave the restaurant. I would highly recommend Erwin and we definitely plan to go back to take advantage of their week night special.

Our party of four had a nice time. This is a great place when you want straightforward food, no edginess, nicely done. A beet salad with ricotta salata was pleasant. Most of us had specials: pork loin saltimbocca with potatoes and apples provided a great mix of flavors, and the hamachi fish special was well-received by the seafood lover among us. From the regular menu, duck confit with braised red cabbage was deeeelicious. For dessert, I liked a peanut butter mousse cake, as did my companion, who typically has little time for peanut butter confections; others among us enjoyed a pear/cranberry fruit crisp. Wines by the glass were well-chosen, and though they were all in the $10-14 range, the pours were generous. Service was cordial and timely. Even though the room was full, we were able to hold a decent conversation.

I went there Friday night for my second visit. The host and our server were both so nice and just attentive enough. The turnip side is amazing--almost like potatoes au gratin, but better! Crab cakes and pork chop were also delicious. You must get dessert there; we had the Michigan cherry pie with vanilla ice cream and could not have been happier. The only thing I don't get is why the restaurant was dead both times I have been, on weekend nights. The pleasant ambiance, food, and service made for a wonderful experience overall.

This has become a brunch staple for us. We've tried many others, but always come back here. We are excited to try dinner sometime. The eggs benedict is exceptional, as is the flank steak and eggs. Oh, and be sure to save room for the peanut butter mousse cake at the end. It is to die for! Service could be a little quicker, but otherwise, it's a great place...very classy.

Report This ReviewWe had very good service, and the food was quite tasty. Definitely worth a visit...
Report This ReviewI'd like to give a good review, but the service was so poor (rude) that I'll never go back.
