Same Place?

Not sure if we are talking about the same place, but we went to Maynards and listened to the final Oak on the Water of summer (by the way, the sound system sucked.) What better way to celebrate the first thursday of september, than dockside on a perfect summer day? I'm a visitor, but my boyfriend and I had an awesome time on the patio, being looked after by Kyle. (Hi Kyle!) There were kids running around, guys, fathers, mothers, daughters and yes, young girls in bikinis, but everyone was having fun, and there was nothing inappropriate going on anywhere. It is what it is, a fun spot to hang out, make friends and enjoy a "special k!"

Not the Maynards it used to be

Although Maynards has never been fine dining or high quality food it has been a fairly decent place to dine lake side in the summer. As a bonus I am able to drive my boat as they have dock slips. To make this brief, this summer big changes. The dock boys are completely incabable and seem to not know a thing about docking boats. They don't assist to secure boats and seem more interested in getting young party drunken boaters slips ahead of other family boaters. We waited in line only to have boat after boat taken ahead of ours as long as they had twenty something partiers on board. Finally when I did get a slip my son had to jump off the boat to get us secured as the dock guy simply flagged us in and walked off. Next, I was yelled at by a dock guy because I did not get off my boat fast enough to go into the restuarant, the kid said if I didn't get off my boat within 15 minutes of docking to go inside to eat or drink I needed to leave. I told him my children where inside ordering, he didn't believe me until they came out with a menu for me. What took the cake was when a boat of drunk people wanted a space, off course the dock boys quickly had them pull in to a prime spot front and center of the docks and tables. The girls on board in tiny bikinis(not the problem) began doing girl on girl and threesome activities. One of the dock boys even hopped on the boat and joined in. The others looked on and said nothing as these people where allowed to hang out on their boat showing their breasts to the guys and dancing around shouting, grinding, exposing themselves while boats with children on board including mine where there. I asked for the dock boy who yelled at me to come to come to talk to me. I asked why I am told to leave for him assuming I was not ordering food and some this type of boat is allowed to not only hang out but is totally out of line in a family restaurant. I asked for a manger who did go to the boat. The people where allowed to stumble off the boat, one girl having to hold onto some guy to get to the bar. My kids and I left.
I think Maynards has a new goal. Get people in and out as quick as possible. Turn tables and boats at the dock. But allow anyone who looks like they will stay at the bar, order lots of booze not only have preference but allowed to do what ever they want. I think they like this new look as it will certainly earn them more money. Everyone knows booze is where profits are. My advice is definately keep the kids home on the weekends and because this all took place at 7:00 at night not late night just don't even attempt to go to this place for dinner on weekends. This has become the new lake minnetonka drunken over crowded 20-29 hot spot. The quality of food has gone down as well, over priced formula bar food that none of these drunken twenty somethings would care about anyway. Rude, poor service. I suggest trying Bayside next door, better service, better food. Or St Albans Boathouse next to Bayside.

Maynards, located on the western shores of Lake Minnetonka in Excelsior, MN is a great summer time bar. You can sit on the patio and enjoy a great view of lake. You can't go wrong for a casual good time, awesome happy hour, decent food and service. I've never has a bad experience . . . only good times at Maynards. GT

visit on 4-18009

About every other month I get to the area to visit my Mother and friends, and the most important item on the itinerary is at least one visit (sometimes more) to Maynards for their outstanding pan fried walleye. On the visit listed, I was served a nondescript piece of fish that was not cooked completely and did not look like what I had ordered. The waitress replaced the order, and altho it looked like what I had ordered, it did not taste like the fish I was accustomed to consuming. I always talked to friends about the outstanding quality and taste of the walleye here, above and beyond that found elsewhere. This is the first time I have encountered this disappointment at Maynards, and am wondering if they may have changed vendors on their walleye. I will give them another try when I get back to Minnesota (I live in Tennessee) to see if this was an exception, or if it will become a standard. I will also say that for the most part, the service is very good.

Best Happy Hour In Town
By hayleyc32 from Minnetonka, MN, February 20, 2009

Living in Minnetonka, I am a frequent visitor of Maynards, especially Happy Hour. Most people are regulars in the summer, but forget about Maynards when the lake is frozen. They have an awesome Happy Hour. Great food and drinks specials. I have never had a bad experience at Maynards! The Sunday brunch is awesome too!
