Caterers/restaurateurs/TV personalities Dan Smith and Steve McDonagh (Hearty Boys catering; Food Network's "Party Line with the Hearty Boys") have converted their Boystown studio space, HBTV, into a full-fledged restaurant where they serve updated twists on comfort food classics. There's tuna casserole (a bed of egg noodles in saffron cream, topped with a wild mushroom-shallot saute, strips of seared, panko-crusted ahi tenderloins and crushed wasabi peas), pork and beans (giant beans slow cooked with pork belly, cheeks and smoked pork hock), PB&J Wonder Bread pudding (layered bread pudding with house-made grape jam, peanut spread and custard) and more. The wine list is an all-American oeuvre, and McDonagh's cocktail list focuses on revived and retooled classics such as an artichoke sour made with the artichoke-based liqueur cynar. Expect a comfortable, mid-century dining room with lots of dark mahogany woodwork, banquette seating lining one wall and a back bar accented by seaglass subway tiles.
