The restaurant is adorable inside. The waitstaff was great. The food is awesome...generous portions with quality ingredients. Plenty of options for vegetarians. This is a solid restaurant in my "rotation". Check it out! It doesn't break the bank!

This unique Latin American eatery brings something different to the table...I dont know whether it's the flavorful food, the great music, friendly staff or wonderful decor, but it has me coming back to try everything on their menu!! I have not been disappointed!! Definitely a must try for brunch, lunch, breakfast and dinner!!

There are enough fancy $12 breakfast spots in Bucktown, so Cafe Con Leche is a welcome addition. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. Having eaten in Johnny's 100 times, I can also confirm that the interior has been given a serious face-lift.
We didn't bring our dogs because a previous reviewer said they were rude to her dog. Oh, and the other reason we didn't bring our dogs is because it's a freakin' restaurant.
If you're looking for a delicious breakfast at a fair price, try CCL.
Report This ReviewCafe Con Leche is a wonderful little restaurant that has something for EVERYONE. It is economically priced and offers a wide variety of dishes that will satisfy every palate. The staff is extremely friendly- and always willing to offer suggestions. The family owners seem to always be involved. You always seem to have the brother or sister walking around asking how your food is, offering free coffee or one of their fresh water drinks- try the watermelon water! Seems like their mother is in the kitchen too.
It's family oriented. Children's menu is quite a hit. They offer food decorated to make it more appealing for children to eat and guess what? It works! Children are so excited to see the decorations on their plates.
I don't understand how you can be rude to a dog? But okay...to each their own. Dogs are allowed to be tied on their outdoor patio railing. They also have dog bowls outside by the entrance. Not being a dog owner, I find it gross to be eating my meal and have a dog sitting next to my table. It is unsanitary.
For breakfast, definitely try the green chilaquiles. In a rush? The torta de chilaquiles. Also the huevos divorciados and the breakfast croissant sandwiches. For lunch, try the steak sandwich, lechon and jibarito sandwiches. Dinner recommendations are well, too many! Fish tacos, Enchiladas de Mole, The lechon, Pollo Guisado, and the carne asada.
You can't go wrong with a neighborhood place that offers fresh, home-style fare, that has something for everyone.
I totally recommend this place. It gets insanely busy on the weekends so don't come expecting to get your meal in 10 minutes. Expect to wait around and be treated well by their staff."
Report This ReviewI have been here twice and both times the food was delicious. Had the Carne Asada, awesome. Had the Chicken Melinesa, incredible. The beans, best beans in town. The staff was soooo nice. You must try it!
Report This ReviewI was excited to try this place since I leave a block away. The service was horrible and the food was sub par. They were also rude to our dog.
Report This ReviewWe were very excited to see a fun new place on that corner. But when we tried a couple of their sandwiches, it was disappointing. The rotisserie chicken sandwich was dry and the steak sandwich not as good as the one at Irazu. And what's the deal with serving french fries with a Cuban sandwich? Where are the tostones? So the name of the place is misleading.
Report This ReviewI live in the clock tower lofts right next to Cafe Con Leche, and was SO EXCITED to try this place out! The food was fantastic, but even on a carefree afternoon, the service was way too slow. GREAT prices, but to wait 45 minutes for two simple mexican tortas... stinks. I went back to place a carry out order on my way home from work at about 3pm. There were about two cooks, and three waitresses. i had to wait about 5 minutes to order, and then another 20 minutes to actually get the sandwich. Good price, great food, poor service.
Report This ReviewExcellent service and awesome food. The food is delicious and authentic Mexican. The ingredients are fresh and everything we tried was great. Also, the service was wonderful. The waitstaff were very welcoming and friendly and also very helpful in their menu suggestions. The cook/owner was also gracious. I plan to come back often.
Report This ReviewYesterday a group of us went to Cafe Con Leche and had the best time. Recently moved to Chicago from California the mexican food hit the spot. The food was hot, fresh and delishish. Ulysses and Michelle (the owners) were very kind and gracious. I intend on going back there very soon.
