Clearly the 5 star reviews written here about this place are by friends of the owner. Branch 27 leaves a LOT to be desired in terms of food and is at best average. The best thing this place has going is the music. We happened to have dinner while sitting at a high-top near the waitstation only to have to listen to the staff trash and criticize the patrons. Who do these guys think they are? If you are looking for good food you will not find it here.

A real good brunch/lunch option

Branch 27 is a cool place with good food, particularly their lunch/brunch menu. Its a good price to bring a sizable group as it is generally not too crowded.

One of the Best Meals I've Ever Had in Chicago!

Pure perfection from the farmhouse salad, to the mussels with frites, to the amazing cod with herbs & heirloom tomatoes. A delight for the senses! The line should be around the block for this place! My husband & I so enjoyed our meal. The decor is as exquisite as the food.

Great Date Spot
By rgahan from Bucktown, August 26, 2009

My husband and I visited Branch 27 last month on our date night, away from our kids. The atmosphere is absolutely perfect. You are in a trendy hotspot but can still hold a conversation. Our food was fabulous. Service was top-notch. Love love the bread pudding dessert. We will definitely return for our next date night!

Excellent experience

I was a little worried because this restaurant was my pick for a bookclub meeting that we were having. I was seated immediately even though I was the first to arrive and my whole party was not there. The wait staff was attentive without being overbearing while I was waiting for my party and once everyone was there service was immediate and very good. The waiter made excellent suggestions and the food was delicious. To start we had the mussels and fires. It was delicious! I had the boneless chicken which had a very good taste and my friend had the scallops, which I tried, again a good choice. We then shared a bread pudding which was also not disappointing. One of the partners, Cary, came over a couple of times to make sure we were ok. I appreciated the level of attention that we got. The place was pretty busy for a Thursday night and the decor is nice. I would very much recommend that you try this place.

Disappointed

We arrived late (10PM) after a show. Orderd 2 speciality drinks drinks that were described as being served with blue cheese olives. Both came out empty olives. Green olives on a pic with holes were blue cheese should have been. Our waitress immediately resolved the issue. Beet salad pretty non-descript. Tuna burger was unusually oily and not because of the aioli sauce. It tasted like it was not fresh tuna. Carrot soup had the consistency of a tub of sour cream. Would not return for food. Staff freindly and ambience good though.

Prepared for worst; pleasantly surprised

After reading other so-so reviews, must say food, service and environs were excellent. Stephanie was a thoughtful and efficient server. Trout and pork chops were great entrees. Very impressed and will venture there again.

Super Sad!
By Theharps from River North, May 23, 2009

My husband and I recently visited Branch 27 for dinner, we arrived early before the place was very crowded and were seated right away. This is where things began to go down hill, our server was not only timid but had no knowledge of either the drink or food menus. We promply ordered drinks and apps. My drink was not good at all, too strong, however our app, the mussels and fries was pretty good and the best part of the meal. My husband I both ordered entrees that we were very disappointed with, the cuts of meat were poor and over-cooked. The one saving grace were the gentlemen who serve as the 'bus boys', in our opinion they should all be promoted to servers. They are attentive, helpful and charming. Overall I would say we were very disappointed, more because we were excited to try a new restaurant. It is just sad to spend both your time and $125 on a place were you're disappointed with the food, drinks and service. Super sad!

Fabulous

This place is great! Location is quite random but that did not affect the dining experience. When we showed up for our Friday night 9:30pm reservations, we were seating right away. A waitress was with us almost immediately and followed up with us often enough. The food was good. I ordered the salmon. My date had the porkchop. Definitely order the mussels and fries. Sooo good. The food was reasonable for the atmosphere of the place and the quality of food. I would say for the neighborhood though, it's a bit pricey but overall a good experience. As a Chicago native, I dine out a LOT and I give this place my recommendation.
