Branch 27
- Neighborhood: West Town
- 1371 W. Chicago Ave.

- 312-850-2700
- Price range: $$$ ($16-$25)
The team behind West Town’s latest addition, which includes Cary Michael (formerly of Rockit) and Howard Natinsky (Fat Cat, Five Star), is aiming for a casual, inviting vibe at this American bistro that takes its name from the building’s past life as the 27th Ward’s library branch. The menu focuses on sharable apps and straightforward, home-style entrees—expect familiar fare such as mussels with white wine and garlic, rotisserie chicken, cedar-plank salmon and flatiron steak, as well as pastas and flatbreads. Terrazzo-tiled floors, exposed brick, custom-made furnishings with cast iron touches, and repurposed woods give the completely renovated former library a comfortable, rustic feel. The three-room space includes a back atrium with seating for about 35 and a separate bar area with eight taps pouring craft beers. In the summer, the front windows will open onto Chicago Avenue.
