Tasty food, gracious service...

We hadn’t had Ethiopian fare in way too long, so it was a treat to return to Ethiopian Diamond. We enjoyed everything about our visit. The veggie combo for two was just right in all respects, as were the Ethiopian coffee and tea. For dessert, the destaye (fried pastry with dried fruits & nuts) was pleasant. Service was gracious and welcoming, and we did not feel hurried at all. There was a jazz quartet playing at the far end of the rather cavernous room, and they fit right in: pleasant, tasty and unobtrusive. I’m already looking forward to my next visit...

Spacious with a good vegetarian menu and a TV bar - a Great Place for a Party
By Saria from East Rogers Park, October 5, 2008

I ate lamb tibs; my companion "doro" (chicken tibs). The chicken tibs were excellent; the lamb tibs contained bone and gristle. Our hosts brought us fresh rolled injera, but they did not explain it. I forgot to use it. My companion and I shared a delectable spninach pocket - "tamosa" - dipped in ginger sauce. The desserts - French vanilla ice cream on flaky pastry dripped with chocolate, and "destaye" (a delicate, flaky pocket pastry filled with a mince pie-like mixture) - were "magnifique." Prices seem standard. I rate Ethiopian Diamond 3.5 stars.

i've been to this restaurant half-a-dozen times and the experience keeps getting better. the food is always good, the ambience is some of the best in the area, the music, the staff, the crowd, and, of course, the food again. it's like the spices soaking into the injera, it gets better with time.

Great Ethiopian Food -- So Glad They're Doing So Well
By lil from Rogers Park, March 4, 2008

I used to live just 2 blocks away from the Diamond and remember when they opened . . . food was fantastic, but it hadn't been discovered yet so it was never crowded. Now, you go on a weekend and it's packed, and I'm thrilled for the restaurant that they're doing so well. The food quality has not diminished one bit, prices are reasonable, but I do wish the waitservice was a little quicker and more attentive -- I think they're overwhelmed sometimes, especially on weekends. Great selection, something for everyone, even vegetarians, and a neat selection of African beers if you are curious about them. I have not tried their bar drinks, but I do recommend the tea! Casual, bright atmosphere.

First try Ethiopian

Friday night, the day after Valentine's Day. It was a full house!
Service was extremely slow. We didn't get a drink order taken until we were sitting for 15 minutes. The waitress apologized, and the food arrived farily quickly after that. We sat in the back at the traditional tables. It is a lively environment. I enjoyed it very much and found the food very tasty. My girlfriend enjoyed it as well, but the food didn't sit well with her. This is an entertaining place to eat. I really want to like this restaurant. Ethiopian food is a nice change. We will return and try it again. Appetizer, two beers, and two big plates= $60 including tip. Took us 10 minutes to find parking.

The best Ethiopian I've had in Chicago. We went after reading the rave reviews on Metromix and were delighted with everything we had. Try the Ethiopian lager -- delicious. Overall a great experience! Great for a double-date or a group.

The food is delicious and served in a bright, attractive, and clean atmosphere. There is something on the menu for just about anyone, and the live music on some nights is another draw.

The food is AMAZING!!! I was introduced to ethiopian cusisine by a friend and insist that it is my favorite. I have also tried all other Ethiopian restaurants in Chicago and this place we always come back to. The staff is very kind, the food great, and the decor what you would expect for a hole in the wall restaurant. Love it.

I am an Ethipioan food junky and have tried them all in Chicago, and many other places throughout the US. This is the best food bar none. And if you are a vegetarian, you will really enjoy eating here. It is my absolute favorite!
