We are big Middle Eastern food fans and have tried many restaurants in Chicago. We believe Couscous, by far, has the best food amongst all of them, and have been going consistently for the last five years. Everything on the menu comes in large quantities yet at a reasonable price. Their fattoush salad is our favorite. Anything on special - we always get it. The only caveat is that their table service is borderline terrible. It's usually only the owner and maybe one helper. So we always order carryout. Call with at least 30 minutes notice because they prepare everything fresh. It's not a sophisticated operation, but the food is so good that we don't mind the one hour round trip to pick up the food! You can tell the owner takes a lot of pride in the food. Definitely try it if you haven't!

This family run thing usually doesn't exactly matter if everything else is a bit off, but CousCous has wonderful, flavorful and fresh food prepared and often served by the owner. Chicken tikka, shwarma, vegetable kebobs, hummus, babaganoush are all outstanding examples. Also, their pistachio (I think) baklava like pastry availabe up front are standard setters with their melting perfect texture.
Agreed that it isn't always the quickest lunch, but that's the trade off for freshness and high quality.

Excellent, cheap food. Service can be slow on certain days, but the food makes it worth it.
Report This ReviewWe went to check out this restaurant as it was featured in Time Out Chicago. The food was fantastic and definitely a great value. However, our waitress for the evening was horrible. I've honestly never received such inept service at any place in Chicago. Anything we asked for- water refills, soda, pita bread, our check, etc., we had to ask at least 2-3 times and wait far too long for how busy it was (4 tables). She was beyond inattentive, and in fact seemed irritated to have to deal with us at all. She really ruined what could have been a great dining experience.
Report This ReviewCouscous is a local favorite, particularly for budget-conscious grad students. The sandwiches are huge, delectable, and downright cheap ($3 - $5). The hummos is smooth and garlicky, too. One downside is the chronically slow service. Plan on a long lunch if you decide to dine there rather than getting carry-out.
Report This ReviewThis place has some of the best baba ghanooj, hummus, and falafals in the city. It's the perfect place for casual dining, and the price is hard to beat. Choose from shish kabobs or pita sandwiches filled with some of the tastiest chicken, beef, lamb, or falafals.
If you're in the neighborhood and are tired of eating the local bar food, this place is the place to go. It offers both great tasting food and inexpensive prices.
Report This ReviewThe food here is excellent... friendly service, wonderful falafals, great prices - must try!
