Don’t choke on your spokes: the best gear for biking
By Mark Peterson, Special to Metromix
Los Angeles is in the midst of a bicycle revolution, and its two-wheeled proponents are paving the way towards a more livable city. Rising energy costs and environmental concerns have encouraged Angelenos to finally embrace the bicycle as a utilitarian mode of transport. And thanks to forward-thinking city council members, activists and organizations, some long-neglected bicycle infrastructure projects are gaining traction as well. Still, L.A. can be a challenging place for even the most iron-willed bike rider. We’ve compiled a list of the best gear to ease your commute, keep you out of harm's way and help you retain the style and composure befitting a modern urban cyclist.
