Ravinia is a "must-do" for during our precious Chicago summers. You can bring your own food, wine, and picnic lay outs. After going a few times you will get more ideas, some folks go all out their spreads and it is fantastic. If you are rushing from work, no worries, there are restaurants on site with great food to choose from, as well as wine vendors.

If you just want to enjoy some great music while enjoying a comfortable picnic with friends lawn seats are the way to go. The speakers are great so you hear sound throughout. However if you are a huge fan and are going to watch the concert (rather than just listen) try to get seats. Although my best experiences have always been with lawn seats.
