Schubas Tavern: User Reviews
Schubas Tavern

I was in Schuba's on New Years day. It might have been my worst bar experience ever. My two friends and I walked in and were lucky enough to find a table. We sat at the table for about 30 minutes before we were even approached by a waiter. The only reason we were even able to get a waiter is because I had to track him down from accross the bar. After giving us menus, he took our drink order, nothing difficult, 3 draft beers. We sat there another 20 minutes and he never came back. So, keeping track, 50 minutes at the bar, no beer. Finally out of frustration, I went to the bar. The bartender was, busy, I will give her that, but she looked at me numerous times, direct eye contact, but never did take my order. Went back to the table, sat there a bit more, still no waiter so we left.
I had hear good things about Schubas, so I was kind of excited, never having been there before. Maybe it is a great music venue, but I know that I have never seen such a lackadasical attitude towards service.
This place is great. The atmosphere is relaxed. A great venue for live music. Waitressess superattentive. Definitley will be going back soon!
Report This ReviewThe bar itself is nothing to write home about. However, they do have a photobooth. But, the bar has an entirely separate room for shows which is actually pretty neat. The venue had kind of an Old World/Taverny feel. Very intimate... Great acoustics. I would reccomend Schuba's mainly as a concert venue.
Report This ReviewIt used to be a cool place to hang out. Doesn't seem that way anymore. The service is very questionable. The bartender is hot but does not provide good service, especially to the women. She down right ignores them.
Good place to hang out with the guys and get flirted with by the hot bartender. Not a good place for the gang to hang out.
Report This ReviewSchubas is absolutely one of the best spots in the city to see a concert. The room gets really hot when it's crowded, but the environment makes the performances feel like they're just for you. That is, if the packed crowd isn't bumping into you to get to the bar, but audiences here are friendlier than most.
Report This ReviewUgh, don't waste your money on this place. service was terrible. Coopers is WAY better!
Report This ReviewMy brother and sister were both regulars here when they lived in Chicago, but what happened to Schuba's? Are there any pubs left that truly serve the neighborhood and aren't just ripoffs? Atmosphere is still great, but because we were sitting in the wrong section we were price gouged for a bottle of wine and a dessert.
Report This ReviewWe go here a lot, and service is MUCH better on the bar side. There is one server on the restaurant side who is horrible. I don't know why they keep him, but every time we decide to sit there, he gets our table. We just cringe! But the food is spectacular and not to be missed! Prices have recently went up though for no justifiable cause. Quality is not better, still the same.
Report This ReviewThe decor is trendy, food average, beer nice but do not wear your contact lenses here and get ready to send your clothes to the dry cleaners! The place is so full of smoke I had to shampoo 3 times to get the stink out of my hair. Asthmatics should not go here.
Report This ReviewI don't smoke, but I don't mind it. It's probably the best small music venue in the city. I haven't seen a bad show there, and I probably go at least once a month. Combined with Harmony Grill, one building can offer you a complete night of dinner, entertainment, and drinks. But again, kudos to their booking staff - they bring in some really talented musicians.
